it's much more of a 'haha this will be amusing' thing to ask Wade to go with him, not a 'lets try getting back together' thing. I know there's a specific reason why Wade was his go to for the date plan, too. Probably, shockingly, he was hornier that Wade by the time the party is happening, because everything's going according to his plan and that's a big turn on for Nate, and Wade being on his best behaviour because he wants Nate to succeed is another. He pokes fun in 'Date' about Wade having a Pavlovian response to the sight of him in a suit, but honestly he's just as bad; getting Wade to behave himself and work with him is like, definitely a Thing bc he has major control issues. I don't think anything really hits him, emotionally, until they're in Wade's kitchen and Wade starts talking through a kiss about how ridiculously large Nate is, and then it's a very sudden, heavy punch of 'oh shit. oh shit, i really Missed Him'. Which is then immediately smothered by horniness and not addressed until after he's had a couple orgasms and they're actually cuddling.

Therefore, if Deadpool wanted Nate to have any time for him, he needed to endanger the world and damage the timestream. That way Nate would have to have time for him. That way Nate would have to pay attention to him. If Deadpool endangered the world, Nate would have to think about him, chase after him, fight him, talk to him...
If Deadpool threatened the world, Nate wouldn't be able to ignore him. Nate wouldn't be able to forget about him.
Deadpool had always loved attention. It got to the point where he didn't care whether it was positive or negative just so long as he got it.
And if he orchestrated events so that he actually died for real after his attention-seeking stunt? Well, that was just a bonus. The cherry on top of the ice cream, if you will.
