The walls were caving in around him.
He heard talking but he couldn't hear or see who it was -- his hearing was numb and he couldn't even look up from where he'd closed in on himself against the wall, his knees pressed harshly against his eyes.
He heard a loud crash and he had to stop himself from whimpering. He didn't want to get hit again, did he?
No.
No, that wasn't right.
He wasn't a child anymore. He wasn't at his parents' house anymore. He wasn't getting hurt by them anymore.
He was safe.
But he remembered.

But this year at camp had been different than previous years. It had him digging up deeply sown feelings, a lifetime of expertly done compartmentalization was being unwoven, unfurled, undone. He started feeling things... deeper. Like a frog in a pot, he sat and let the water get warmer and warmer. Butterflies fluttered in his belly when he saw Max smile, when he heard him laugh. It was comforting, it was calm, it was safe. Most of all, it was warm. And maybe it would’ve stayed in that safe zone, forever toeing the line but never crossing, the water never boiling after all.

That voice rang through the camp and made Max flinch. Actually, everyone flinched because of the voice that yelled it. It was David, but he sounded mad, not the parental mad like how he was when scolding the campers. He sounded pissed.
"Geez, Max..." Neil muttered, "What did you do this time?" Max shrugged. "What didn't I do is the real question. Hell, I stole his phone so much that he doesn't care when I do it now."

David finds the wine Max swiped from Cameron in Max's tent...and he is NOT happy about it.

This camp never has enough medicine stocked, or any medical supplies really.
Problem? Chicken Pox has spread it's throughout the entirety of Lake Liliac, leaving the Camp Campbell kids as the last uninfected zone, with Gwen and David rushing into town to get medicine.
Max got separated from Neil and Nikki, but managed to get found by Preston before he was nabbed. Can they survive until the counselors get back?
