Charon places a hand to his upper back, fingers near the nape of his neck. It’s a caricature of a push. Bouncing a drunk as theater, never walking Adam faster than his feet can accommodate. They easily cut through the Friday night crowd of the 9th Circle, even in its thickest parts. His curls brush against the tops of Charon’s knuckles.
When they’re nearly at the wall, Charon does give him a little shove. Just enough that he stumbles as he twists around to face him. Charon’s voice is still cigarette- rough from the drag he bummed from Wooz in the supply closet, too close to Adam’s ear: “You’re not supposed to be here.”
