This time, David smiled at him. It suddenly occurred to him that they weren’t talking about the strike or the Union or anything at all. He didn’t really mind the silence, but if it continued to grow Jack might pick up on just how David enjoyed it–how long David could sit in silence and stare into his eyes (and God, Jack’s eyes were so pretty). He rattled his brain and opened his mouth, grasping for a conversation starter.
“Your eyes are beautiful.”
David froze. He hadn’t meant to say that. If the end of the world was going to happen now, David was sure he'd be okay with it.
