On Saturday, November 21, 2009, 16-year-old Kendall Winifred "KJ" Jensen snuck into the Gardenview Educational Center and Museum without her father's knowledge. For seven years, the center, a part of its namesake Gardenview Park, has been secluded from the rest of the park after the center was closed down due to repeated violations of OSHA's safety regulations, shady business practices, and the "Malfunction" incident that resulted in the death of daytime janitor Benjamin Lee "Jamie" Kallas.
Join KJ as she ventures into Gardenview Entertainment's forsaken educational center where she meets new friends and foes alike, uncovers truths not known by the public, and, above all else, find her mom.

Shelly walked up beside Sprout, putting her hand on his shoulder. “We mean… Or at least he means… What happened to you, Dandy? I-I mean, just…” Shelly fell silent, like she already knew.
“We all get it.” Vee chimed in, “The handlers never returning, Shannon leaving nothing but a note to Shelly, and the closing of Gardenview… It affects us all, Dandy.”
“So why…” Sprout tried to calm down, his tone was still laced with anger, “Why are you different? Why are your eyes the same hint of red as what our friends turn into? What are you involved with?! Why did the handlers leave-”
“Sprout.” Vee cut Sprout off, then looked to Dandy. His expression didn’t change, it seemed like their words just weren’t getting through to him. “Dandy. Pay. Attention!”
“I am paying attention to my friends.” Dandy smiled, ear to ear.
“Then ANSWER my DAMN questions!” Sprout shouted at the top of his lungs.

Vee notices her handler is missing and ends up getting Astro to help her which leads to a particular fossil toon also mentioning her handler was missing. Before the three of them knew it or could get answers to where their handlers went, a trio of new handlers for the toons are deployed.
Vee isn't sure how to handle it but doesn't bother Astro as the toon was also coping, little did she know, this switch of handlers was about to reveal the dark and the light for both toon and human.
