Portland, Maine. 1985.
Jackson Smith just moved to Portland after spending three years in Virginia with his foster tía and tío, and he's not all that excited. He hasn't been the new kid in years; especially not after he finally got out of the foster care system. He isn't looking forward to starting all over again, but then he meets another boy: Elijah.
Elijah is like nobody he's ever known; funny, strange, open, and more than anything, magnetic. The two become fast friends, and Elijah starts to bring out a side of Jackson that he never would've seen otherwise. As they spend more time together during and out of school, they find themselves growing closer and closer. Whether Jackson is ready to accept what they have is another story.

David had finally had enough of everything.
His father kicked him out and refused to talk to him. And he knew he shouldn’t expect more from him, but he couldn’t help it. And he knew no one else would get it.
Hell, he didn’t even get it himself.
So one night, he ran off to the woods. Hoping to be able to breathe and simmer in his misery. He didn’t expect to find an old lady with the warmest smile he’d ever seen. Much less that she would hand him the cure to his problems in a bottle.

The games take place every summer and last until the week right before school starts. The only rule is that you keep the game a secret. They all want the same thing: to get out of their small town.
These kids would do anything to get out of Kingsmont. This combined with their own individual reasons leads to their motivation to play. Question is, how far can they go without panicking?

It’s not that David hates camping—he used to love it. But it definitely wouldn’t have been his first choice for a summer group activity. When Exer suggested the idea, though, everyone else was too excited for David to argue against it. After a disastrous final semester, they all wanted to end high school on a positive note.
And so, here they are.

They’ll just cry, cry, and cry because the pretty boys got braces- ow!” The pen that he threw seems to hit Jackson right in the forehead. He ignores his cheeks beating up at Jackson calling him a ‘pretty boy.’

So when the rustling got closer, and the twigs snapping started to get closer to the beach. He just froze up, his original plan of diving back into the water failed, betrayed by his flight, fright, or freeze response. His head turned towards the pinewoods just behind him, his eyes wide with fear, waiting for whoever was in that forest to emerge. Or maybe whatever was in that forest because what if it wasn’t even a human, what if it it was some strange creature, what if the ghost stories were true?! Okay, now he was properly over thinking it, it will just be a nosy pirate.
The figure finally emerged, yet again, ruining his train of thought.
