Summary
"You’ve changed,” Jayce mutters, once again meeting Viktor’s gaze.
“So have you, Jayce.” The Herald’s eyes, still as a calm sea, push into Jayce’s as if seeing through him. Observing. His lips shift into a slight approximation of a smile, welcoming and open. “You look afraid. Is something wrong?”
“You already know. You’re not him anymore.” The words are spit out like poison, harsh with a history only known to Jayce.
“Nonetheless, I appreciate you accepting my invitation. I was worried you would let fear cloud your judgment.” Viktor sighs gently, ignoring the other man’s words.

Vi had asked her not to change.
It’s only now that she acknowledges how foolish and naive that was. That people can’t exist in stasis, that they must march forward with the endless beat of time, that only death can holt the inevitable traverse from who you were to who you might become.
