The thought of having to give up on his feelings for Caim brought tears to Inuarts eyes, his anger starting to rise in his chest. He got up in a halt, startling Caim.
“But I don’t want to marry Furiae! I don’t want to be your brother in law!”
Caim looked up at him, a confused expression on his face. Inuart immediately regretted his words. He looked away, too embarrassed about his behavior to look his friend in the eyes.
“Inuart…”
Caim spoke in an unusually soft tone, his voice full of worry. Inuart felt a piercing pain in his heart, as the last thing he wanted was to make Caim sad. He slowly sat down by Caim’s side again.
“I’m sorry, Caim. I didn’t mean to talk to you like that. It’s just that…”
He felt tears forming in his eyes again.
“Look, I know marrying Furiae should be an incredible honor. And Furiae is very dear to me, she really is, both of you are. But… my feelings for her are not like that. There is someone else my heart belongs to.”
“And who might that be?”
The two of them looked at each other with serious expressions. Inuart decided it was time to finally tell him. It was now or never.
“You, Caim.”
