It starts in the rain, when Tomas encounters a jaded, indignant thief, armed only with his fists and a nearly tangible disdain for the world that left him to die on the streets.
In desperate need of new kombatants, Hanzo Hasashi becomes the Shirai Ryu's first initiate. Bold, aggressive, and running on malice, Hanzo could be exactly what the clan needs to get off the ground -- not to mention, potentially rival whatever "Dragon Army" Bi-Han's stirring up.
But if Tomas has learned anything over his years of being an orphaned-adopted-sort-of-magic-ninja, it's that nothing can be simple. Indeed, it takes a village to raise a child. This one in particular including (but not limited to) his brother, a washed up movie star, a blind guy with a sword, an actual lizard, a literal god, and a fledging empress who may have bit off more than she can chew (literally). Threats emerge from every corner. In Outworld, peace can only be fleeting, slipping out of one's hands and disappearing to gods know where in a mere moment.
Kind of like a puff of smoke, when you think about it.
