John puts his hands to his chest and tries to regulate his breathing. More than that, he tangles his hands in the soft, coral sleeves of the sweater that is much too big for him. He inhales the scent of ginger and cloves and soft cologne and something floral and Martin. He bunches up the sleeves and wraps his arms around himself, letting the scent and warmth of the man fill his senses. Until he feels a hand wrap around his forearm, and he realizes.

With domesticity so new to the both of them, our boys are still frightened that one day they’ll wake up and it’ll be gone- a dream made by their desperate minds, lying on the Panopticon floor, Magnus standing over them, preparing to make them breathe their last. The nightmares are too realistic for their life together to be real, right? Their comfort from each other comes in completely ridiculous forms, but they don’t pretend to not be softened by it.
