“Apparently,” continued Ned, “Carol Danvers was less than happy about our recent article on her actions in New York this past week.”
“Why?” asked one of the newer employees.
“Why do you think?” scoffed Karen, “Kat included a photograph of Captain Marvel’s ASS in the article.”
“It wasn’t her BARE ass,” responded Kat resentfully, “She was wearing underpants. A particularly modest pair of underpants, I might add.”
“Yeah…” said Ned, “She’s… less than happy about you including that detail in the article as well.”
“Well it’s true,” shrugged Kat.

Peter Parker had worked at the Bugle for years. He and Betty had grown close. Betty had even developed feelings for him, though he never opened up to her. She considered that it may have been stupid to turn on all of her friends for someone like that. Sometimes it felt like she had no one left.
“Hey.”
“Hey,” sighed Betty with a smile, turning around to see Ned.
Ned had a gentle smile on his face as he looked at Betty digging through the trash. Ned had been the only one not to completely turn against Betty following the trial. He continued to say hi to her every morning, offer his help, and ask her advice on stories. His wide, almost dopey smile had become comforting.

“I would.”
“What is your opinion of him?”
“Objection!” shouted Matt, “Relevance, Your Honor.”
“It goes to Mr. Parker’s character,” said Jeri, turning back to Matt, “You were intending to have character witnesses yourself, yes?”
“...yes,” muttered Matt, sitting back down.
“Continue,” said the judge.
“He’s a decent photographer,” said Kat, “but beyond that not I can’t say much. When he’s not wearing the mask, he’s nothing. A nobody. A loser.”
The audience murmured as Peter sank sadly down into his seat.
“No further questions,” smiled Jeri, returning to her desk.
Matt cleared his throat and began his cross examination. Nothing came from it. Peter and his friends left the courthouse that day with grim prospects for the trial.

“My name is Captain Jean DeWolff,” said the woman at the door, “I was hoping we could talk to you about-”
“You have a warrant?” demanded Jessica.
“No, but-”
“Then have a nice day,” said Jessica, shutting the door.
“It’s about Spider-Man,” shouted DeWolff from the other side, “We know you’ve worked together! We’ve brought his girlfriend in for questioning. If you know where he is-”
“Wait!” called out Peter, swinging in through the window and pulling off his mask.
Jessica shot him a look of shock and anger.
“They’re going to find out, Jessica,” he said quietly, “I can’t put anyone else through all this just to delay the inevitable.”
“Ms. Jones?” called DeWolff, “Is there someone in there who would like to speak with us?”
Peter went for the door. Jessica rushed up to him, but he was easily able to push her back with his superior strength. Jessica grunted as she stumbled back. It was rare that Peter ever used his strength against her. Sometimes she even forgot he was stronger. Peter arrived at the door and opened.
“Hello,” he said to DeWolff, “My name is Peter Parker and I have been Spider-Man since I was 18 years old.”

“There she is,” whispered Betty.
“Seriously?” asked Ned in disbelief, “Her?”
Betty and Ned sat sipping coffee across the street from a liquor store in Hell’s Kitchen. A disheveled-looking woman wearing sunglasses had just emerged from the store, bag of booze in hand.
“You think that’s bad,” scoffed Betty, “you should check out how Patsy Walker’s been doing these days.”
“Should we follow her?” asked Ned.
“Yes,” said Betty, “in a moment. We don’t want to confront her in broad daylight like this. She won’t give us anything. If we catch her in the lobby of her apartment or something though…”
“What the hell do you two want?”
Both Ned and Betty nearly leapt out of their seats in surprise. Jessica had crossed the street at the end of her block and circled back around, approaching Betty and Ned from behind.
“How… How did…?” stuttered Ned.
“Betty Brant from the Daily Bugle,” noted Jessica, “I doubt you're just sitting across the street from a shitty liquor store for fun. What do you want?”
“To the point,” smiled Betty, “I like it. What can you tell us about the incident at the Triskelion?”
“No,” said Jessica.

“Why don’t you go ahead and show us right here on the show?” dared Kat with a grin.
Betty looked back in disbelief. So that’s how it was going to be.
“I’m not going to strip on camera,” said Betty, feigning laughter.
“You don’t have to,” said Kat immediately, “Just pull them up and show us.”
The two women stared at each other for a moment. Kat was making a strong power move. If Betty refused, Kat would continue to press the issue. If Betty wanted her to stop, she’d have to appease her now and end the matter quickly.
“Fine,” said Betty, standing up and disconnecting her mic pack, “One second…”
