“I will bloody murder them,” Aelwyn fumed. “I will burn their stupid little tower to the ground and melt their spellbooks into slag. Who do they think they are—”
The kids had already leapt into action. Kristen was calling the group thread to marshal up Riz, Gorgug, and Fabian. Fig had rushed upstairs to throw together a pile of gear, returning with a mishmash of bags and weapons and snacks.
The Court of Stars is not willing to let their Elven Oracle simply walk away. Three weeks after returning from the Nightmare Forest, they make another retrieval attempt. Alone and cut off from her party, Adaine is plunged into a battle of wills as she bides her time for escape

"I'm afraid I can't help you if you can't be more specific," Adaine says, and her voice trembles, even as her gaze locks onto Fabian's own, piercing and almost daring him to keep talking. "What have you lost?"
"A dear friend," Fabian answers, and he has to bite his own tongue; his voice comes out a low hiss, seeped with venom. Why is she acting like this? For all that he's been afraid of what he might find, the last thing – even despite the passage of time – he had expected was for Adaine to seem upset to see him. "One that has been lost to me for many, many years."
"Perhaps your friend does not want to be found," Adaine says, lifting her chin. "Still, you have troubled yourself greatly to come here. Perhaps wisdom I can offer you yet; if you cling too tightly to the past, you will find yourself missing a great future."

Adaine tried very hard not to panic, staring across at her father and the other elves who had arrested her. Kidnapped her, really; they'd caught her trancing in an out of the way corner of Leviathan, wedged next to a derilect ship's hull, her habit of not taking her rest around the remainder of the party if she could avoid it coming back to bite her in the ass. Hopefully the others wouldn't think she'd just abandoned them after the fight in Leviathan.
Adaine Abernant, nine years old and desperately uncertain of what to do about her life, climbed out of the window on the morning of the eighth day of her being grounded, knowing that the rest of her family would be absent for hours still. It was summer break from Hudol, and her parents were extremely displeased with her lack of progress as a wizard.

Kir’s tone is cold and objective. Adaine can’t help but sneer as she replies in the same way. “What possible advantage to me or my friends can helping you give me?”
The taller elf nods slowly. “Very well. I will return, Oracle, until you either give in or give me no other choice.”
Adaine knows what ‘no other choice’ means: the Court of Stars will sentence her to death for the sole crime of not complying. She feels the blade hanging over her neck, the barrel of the gun pressed to the back of her head. An execution waits for her if she doesn’t help them. Adaine watches as Kir leaves the room, feels all the breath rush out of her as she does. She can’t even slump or collapse, the rotating orb forcing her to keep walking, eventually falling into a crawl as the night passes and the hours tick by and she is left in the darkness with only the faint starlight for company.

The Fallinel government expected when they executed the traitor Oracle Adaine Abernant that they would be rid of her and get a new one.
That did not really work out for them.
