Summary
As Hannibal carefully unravels Will's emotional defenses, he begins to exploit Will's vulnerability, recognizing his complex mix of guilt, empathy, and repressed desire. Praise, subtle touches, and calculated intimacy from Hannibal push Will toward an inevitable confrontation with his own wants, drawing them both into a dangerous and intoxicating dynamic. As Will struggles between the impulse to flee and the magnetic pull of Hannibal's influence, he begins to understand that he might not only want Hannibal's approval, but something far more visceral. The tension between them builds to a crescendo, as both men inch closer to crossing lines neither can return from.

Summary
The personality he’d started to construct in his mind fell away when Hannibal looked up from the nearly finished drawing to see the little boy staring back at him. The pair of eyes peering back at him flicked away the second they made contact, and Hannibal started to piece together a new personality. A real one. Are you shy, he wondered?
He gathered his pencils back in his pocket, closed his sketchbook, and stood. The boy’s eyes snapped right back to him, and as Hannibal approached, he could see that he was rigid from anxiety.
“Um.” The little boy exhaled under his breath, “Hi?”
One of his feet was crossed behind the other in a timid little gesture. Hannibal took note of his body language; he was uncomfortable. Maybe even scared. Hannibal didn’t want to make him scared.
He raised a hand and waved.

Summary
Will Graham stretches himself so far he snaps, and authenticity loses its appeal. He's not even twenty when he abandons the name his pops gave him and tries on the myriad of personalities he's encountered as a beat cop for a change.
He settles into Neal Caffrey the best he can, but his designer suits itch and his skin stretches painfully when he smiles. There's a burner phone in a storage unit and baseball tickets for Peter in his blazer pocket, two paths he could take. In the end, it isn't a choice at all: there's a reason he was so comfortable as a conman, as a mess of contradictions and different personality traits. The world fades away when what he wants comes into focus.
He leaves, and he starts answering to his name before all names again, settles into an image of the life he was supposed to have, supposed to live before he gave it all away.
Will Graham just never expects those two lives, two identities, to ever intersect.

(“Do I look alive?”)
A shot fires through the air and finds itself buried in Abel Gideon’s shoulder. Garrett Jacob Hobbs’ shoulder. Hannibal Lecter’s shoulder. Will stumbles forward. The gunshots grow louder, lodging themselves in between Hobbs’ ribs, Hannibal’s chest, Gideon’s trachea, Will’s slowing heart.
(“You look pretty.”)
Season 1 canon divergence of Will suffering from derealization/depersonalization in the aftermath of Abel Gideon's apprehension and Georgia Madchen's death.

Summary
Will took a sharp inhale as he realized why Sutcliffe had found him so interesting. This was a rarely diagnosed disorder, even rarer documented. The symptoms were the worst when the patient was fixated on them, which would happen almost instantaneously once Will was told the nature of his disorder. Sutcliffe had looked at Will and seen opportunity. Grants. Research to do, papers to publish.
“We will, of course, continue to do other scans and blood work even though my mind is almost all but made up on this diagnosis based on your gait. There’s just a few more things we have to check off before giving you the official stamp. FND is a diagnosis of exclusion, so just to be safe, we do have to check for everything else. Does the FBI have good insurance?”
Sutcliffe was, for a lack of better words, preparing to wind Will up and watch him go. How interesting it would be.
“I certainly hope so, doctor.”
A season 1 AU where instead of encephalitis, Will is diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder.

Summary
Sequel to "I am no Gabriel".
Hannibal Lecter is pleased where his relationship with Will Graham is progressing. However, there are still a few hurtles left to scale, namely Will's inability to open up, both physically and emotionally. And that nagging need for Hannibal to be known, himself. Perhaps a little distance and a (manufactured) murder is all they need to take the final leap.
Chapter 2 will be posted August 13 (this next Tuesday)
