Summary
The pacifist best ending story adapted to be longer and more in-depth. Because of that, a lot of the cases and orders of events are different, but we'll get there in the end. I've tried to avoid re-telling. Centred on Connor and Hank.
Edit: Now complete, and we not only get there we went a lot farther!Connor has only been operational for two months, so it's no surprise that he's curious about the world and still learning to navigate the complexities of interpersonal relationships. He's thrown in at the deep end when he's leased to the DPD and partnered with Lieutenant Hank Anderson, the walking case study in depression. His ideas of morality, punishment, and value are being turned upside down.The more he learns; the more he begins to question.
Hank hates androids. They're stealing jobs, killing people, and they've got no souls. The more androids there are, the more living, breathing people lose their humanity. When the RK-800 is assigned as his 'partner', it's no surprise that Hank is pissed. The android who calls itself Connor is smiling, frowning, back-talking, and even acts like it cares. The more he learns; the more he begins to question.
Human or android, they're both made from broken parts.

i don't usually leave notes but i feel like this bookmark definitely needs one.
read the first half-ish of this if you just want mostly canon compliant hank&connor father/son vibes. very good stuff.
then the second half is still excellently written but ehhhh. im not the happiest with some of the decisions the author made. it can get very confusing and also just mindfuckery. i really don't think connor should've actually been cole. the whole basis of hank and connors relationship is the FOUND family, and healing from each other. instead, we got probably the most fucked up version of hank i've ever read in one of these things. when he finds out connor has some remains of cole's personality in him, he takes that to mean he IS cole. in a period where connor is finally a deviant who is supposed to be discovering himself, he treats connor like a 6yo kid, and he is always displeased when connor doesn't act like one. it gets to the point where connor begins to act like a YK MODEL to appease hank. this version of hank screams emotional neglect to me (as well as some physically neglectful stuff because wdym gavin actually cared to read about connor's model, realised his battery was fucked, and realised that connor didn't have a single unit of clothing that was genuinely his while hank didn't even bother with any of that.) i really do think that in this story connor would've been better off staying with someone else, because hank really isn't in the state of mind to care for connor. anyway i could rant about this stuff forever and i really shouldn't.
also the way the amanda storyline ended kinda pissed me off it was very unsatisfying.
BUT this isn't a negative review. i genuinely really enjoyed reading this and if it was a physical book i would call it a pageturner. the language is excellent, the plot is well-written, and the characterisation is for the most part great. its just a few small things that ticked me off.

“My name is Connor. Don’t worry, I’m not a—”
“HUMAN!”
Connor audibly groans. Even as he knows he’ll be pursued soon if he isn’t already, he takes a moment to pinch the bridge of his nose, then looks back. The logical thing to do would be start preemptively running. Instead, he glances back and shouts, “Android, actually!”
An energy spear shoots through the air, passing not an inch away from his face and lodging itself in the wall nearby. Judging by that, and the angry yelling coming from its thrower, Connor decides it may be a good time to run.
Humans and androids have found themselves in an uneasy peace, although that’s not to say there isn’t still a long way to go. Then Connor’s asked to investigate a site where humans have been disappearing for a very long time. And, suddenly, everything’s a lot more complicated.
Of course, Connor’s the only one who knows just how complicated things are now, and he’s got slightly bigger problems at the moment. Like staying alive, and one step ahead of the monsters that want to steal his apparently very human soul.

Summary
Connor is not like the other deviants. How could he be? He almost shot Markus. Twice. RK800 decides that he, himself, can't be trusted around other Androids, so he runs.
Too bad Markus doesn't agree with that notion, and it only takes so long, with Androids scouring Detroit, for Connor to be located.

Months after the peaceful Demonstration Markus led his people through, Connor is finally starting to fall into place with the rest of the Androids. Well... Except North, who's a particularly hard nut to crack when it comes to trust. Turns out, all Connor needed to do was show her that he's on her side.
But... that kinda... backfires? And now Markus is... he's disappointed in Connor, and Connor's not sure what to do with that. It's a stressful situation for someone still relatively new to human emotions... Connor's not sure what to do with this new software instability, or how his physical body seems to be reacting. Thank rA9 that he's got people like he does to help him through this.

After the Good Ending of Detroit Become Human, Gavin Reed is assigned a new partner (RK900) whom he will be forced to work with, despite Reed not being fond of his new partner's look. Their first case? Finding out what Gavin did the night before, after he wakes up the next morning with no memories of what he happened, but more importantly, with his service weapon gone.

To test the RK800's infiltration capabilities, it is inserted into a domestic scenario; assigned to Todd Williams after his AX400 is destroyed. It is meant to observe, record, and report potential red ice trade connections. But what was supposed to be a test mission goes off-script.
Connor witnesses Todd hurting his daughter, causing him to break out of his objectives and flee into the night with Alice.
Meanwhile in the city, another RK800 model is sent to work with the DPD to investigate the deviancy spreading.
