“Lo van a matar.”- La voz de su cuñado parecía la de alguien que acababa de descubrir su peor pesadilla.
“¿De qué diablos estás hablando?”.- Max no quería sonar tan brusco (o alterado), pero ellos no sabían nada, y Kiran ya empezaba a sacar las peores conclusiones.
“Ya sea porque es mi hijo o porque tiene ADN de héroe y villano. Van a matarlo”.- Él pánico en su voz creció… no, el terror en su voz creció. Max lo miró a los ojos y solo vio un hombre completamente aterrorizado.- “Y si tenemos mala suerte a ella también.”
El silencio que siguió a sus palabras fue absoluto… y Max no pudo evitar que el mismo terror lo envolviera por completo.

Summary
This was not what they did. They argued and sometimes they fought and then they went out for lunch with Chloe because it was actually kind of fun. They followed leads and they went on missions and they made sure to keep the town safe and each other alive. Sometimes it got bad and they admitted insecurities and fears and they tried to do better. But they didn’t do this, not really. Some things were left unsaid, even though they weren’t and sometimes they carried their teenage baggage way into their twenties. It was fine. Only it wasn’t.
“Phoebe,” he called her once, trying to get her attention. He wasn’t sure if she’d actually heard him. She seemed preoccupied with still staring at the phone even though it was silent and she didn’t really have any intentions of answering it before that anyway.
They didn’t really do this. Max didn’t really do this, he was sure Phoebe would know the exact right thing to say and do and maybe if he hadn’t avoided everyone and everything in the past he would have experienced it firsthand. He wasn’t- He wasn’t really the right person for this, he couldn’t be.

Summary

Phoebe has always panicked, that's a fact. And now that they're adults, now that they're living in Secret Shores with their own jobs, own lives (even if it is undercover), Max and Phoebe are still the same: She spirals, he grounds her. Even if she's upset because of something he did.
When Max finds Phoebe at school having a panic attack, he does what he always does. It's like habit at this point.

She hurried off, clutching her purse. The thugs scrambled away too, one still sliding on the ice.
Colosso hopped over, glaring. “You’re supposed to be building a villain résumé, Maxie, not rescuing purse ladies.”
