Homes of high Wehrmacht officers, SS officers, and German nobility got plundered, rape and murder were of a daily occurrence, and camp guards became even more brutal as the British, Canadian, and American armies were getting closer.
It was the same in every big city the Allied troops entered. Rennes, Le Mans, Nantes, Rouen, Chartres, Paris, Reims, Luxembourg, Charleroi, Namur, Brussels, Aachen… it had all been the same.
That was why it was so strange to see 1 house, clearly belonging to a wealthy elitist family, totally undisturbed and undamaged near the Cologne suburbs. All windows remained unbroken, nor were there bullet holes in its stone walls or its wooden doors. However, it did look completely abandoned.
