Summary
“Look, guys,” Hunk said, thickly swallowing, “I don’t feel right spying like this.”
“We aren’t spying,” Lance defended, waving his hand as if brushing away his friend’s worry. “We’re just… we’re watching him from a distance…”
“In a bush,” Pidge added.
“With--Without him knowing,” Hunk hiccuped.
“I know this isn’t exactly okay,” Lance admitted, fully knowing he’s crossing an extremely hair-thin line regarding Keith’s trust.
---
The trio decide to watch Keith's pyromancy and necromancy session in secret on their journey to the Arusians. Keith unknowingly reveals a few emotional details that intrigue Lance enough to have him question his friend the following morning, but Keith's unwillingness to be vulnerable is a steep hurdle, though one Lance is willing to conquer.

Summary
With the others, bonding had been so easy. But Keith wasn’t like the others.
He was cold and off-putting. Defensive. Not an approachable person.
And then his necromancy was revealed and he suddenly made sense.
If Coran was hunted for simply being fae, then he’d keep to himself as well.
---
During a nightly stroll, Coran stumbles upon Keith after he spent the day with his friends. Coran decides to clear the air between them.

Summary
After a few minutes, Lance finally broke the silence.
“Allura mentioned necromancers,” Lance began, wincing at how stupid he sounded. Keith nodded. “They… they are working with the Galra.”
“I know,” Keith said with a hard voice, then again quieter, “I know.”
“What do you want to do?”
Keith humorlessly chuckled. “What can I do? I finally hear of others like myself and they are on the opposite side of this war.”
---
The group finds out vital information about their connections to fae spirits called lions. As Allura explains, details about the Galra Empire are revealed that rattle Keith. In his desperation to protect his friends, he practices his necromancy a little too close to camp. Someone stumbles upon him. Their reaction may cost him everything.

Summary
“Stars! It all makes sense.”
“Well, that’s usually how people react when someone had proclaimed they wanted to kill you.” Though Keith had attempted a light tone, the joke fell horribly flat. The silence afterwards was awkward and made Keith’s skin crawl. He berated himself. He had always been horrible at relieving tension from situations and he had to go and make it worse. He should’ve left the jokes to Lance.
Keith startled when Lance slowly rose from the floor and sat beside him, leaving a few inches of space between them. He let out a breath.
“I am sorry,” Lance sincerely said.
---
Keith and Lance get a chance to talk about the incident the day before. It goes well until it goes bad. Lance is hung up on Keith's necromancy and his unwillingness to use his necromantic fire and it drives the pyro-elemental witch further away.

Summary
“Hey, I’m Lance,” he introduced after clearing his throat.
The boy with the raven hair glanced down from his perch on the high windowsill, giving him an unimpressed brow before returning his gaze to the cityscape. Lance pouted at his quick dismissal of him, puffing out his chest, determined to win the bet.
“My brothers and sisters and I are going to play a game. Do you want to play?” he questioned, but the boy didn’t even acknowledge that he had spoken. His behavior poked at Lance in the wrong way.
------
During a short vacation to a witch coven, ten year old Lance and his older siblings become intrigued by a boy who's always alone. He's quiet and withdrawn, an antithesis to Lance's loud and proud personality. Their first meeting turned sour quicker than Lance had ever anticipated. Now he with guilt staining his conscious, Lance wants to make amends.

Summary
Shiro expected the boy to devour the bowl, but he simply sat there, gripping it tightly to his stomach defensively as if someone would take it from him, yet not eating a single berry in the minutes they sat together.
He looked at the boy properly and his appearance worried him as much as, if not more than, his behavior. Without shoes, his feet were stained dark with dirt and berry juice, his hands much the same. The dirt traveled up his arms and legs, darkening his scars and invading fresh cuts that glowed angry reds underneath. His long hair tangled and cascaded passed his shoulders; its oily strands obscuring his face and bleeding into his clothing. Patches of discoloration patterned the fabric with decorations of random tears and stains, one a particular shade of brown that had Shiro’s full stomach roiling at its implications.
Shiro felt sick. With a strained voice, he said, “Aren’t you hungry?”
===
Fresh into solo training, Shiro encounters a young boy attempting to steal from a market vendor. Circumstances and compromises lead the boys together, forming a relationship that may do more harm than good in a society with magickal norms and a history of bloodshed.

Summary
“The name’s Lance, by the way,” he begins to prattle on, “Not that you seem to care. You have very little manners, don’t you? My mamá would be disappointed in you, but since she raised a perfect son, I’m going to apologize for not introducing myself earlier, though you did invade my space. Honestly, you think a necromancer would be wise enough to check for ghosts first, but apparently not. I--”
“What the hell do you want?” Keith asks, rubbing the bridge of his nose.
Lance rolls his eyes, drifting forward until Keith’s breath begins to frost in front of him because of their proximity to one another. “For you to bring me back to life of course, duh.”

“My abilities are fine!”
“Tell that to your singed clothing,” Lance countered.
“I don’t need a lecture from a waterlogged seer,” he snarled, turning away, planning on making a quick escape to the forest.
“Well at least I can control my element. At least I didn’t grow up alone because of it,” Lance icily said.
