TRIGGER WARNING: Brief mention of sexual assault in Chapter 3The last Geralt saw of Ciri, she'd left, trying to prevent the White Frost foretold in the prophecies. She never returned, presumed dead. For a mutant who was rumoured to have been stripped of emotion, Geralt struggled for some time over the loss of the girl he saw as his own daughter. He sought vengeance, finding the last crone, the one Ciri had failed to kill, and he finished the job quickly in order to retrieve Ciri's medallion, which had one belonged to Vesemir. Geralt travelled alone from then on... Yennefer and Triss had cut ties to him, having discovered he'd been romancing them both at the same time. Lambert and Eskel had disappeared, heading off on their own paths to other continents, leaving Kaer Morhen in ruins. Witchers had become a rarity, and rumours had spread viciously, causing even more hostility towards the mutants than before.
The continent has been ravaged by war, famine, disease and crime spreading across the land, but Witcher work has become harder to find. Alone, hungry, tired, Geralt finds himself need of assistance, and he has only one person left he can rely on.

“Sure, yeah. Let’s say I am. Do you plan to stay the night?” Jaskier asks. Just like that. As if they were old acquaintances reconnecting. As if Lambert didn’t steal away the last time. And the time before that. And the time before that too. He has a bad track record when it comes to Jaskier, but the bard doesn’t seem to mind. He trots along, eyes fixed on the jutting half-timbering houses that draw ever closer.
“I am. Guess we can find a cheap inn and share a room,” Lambert says. He would be lying if he claimed his only motive was saving coin, though it does incentivize him. That and the wink Jaskier throws him at the word ‘share’. That easy, huh? '

Summary
When Geralt and Yen find another djinn to break the bond the first one forced them into, Geralt realises the feelings he's had for Jaskier all this time. Only, when he goes to talk to him, he finds out Jaskier has moved on. He tries to be happy for his friend.
Jaskier's sister is in town, and Geralt seems to hate her. She insists that the witcher is jealous of her, and while people often mistake them for lovers (gross), he can't imagine why Geralt would be upset by it. He's never shown any interest, after all, so why start now? Priscilla suggests that they test her theory, and he's never been very good at saying no to her.
