Summary
If Ursa had it her way, their teenage years would’ve been spared. If Ozai had only loved his wife. If only Azulon had treated Ozai better. If Sozin had shown Azulon compassion- so it came down to that. Generations of tyrants pumped blood through Zuko’s heart. They gnawed on his bones in his sleep.
As Mai and Zuko welcome their little girl into the world, they reflect on their upbringings, their relationship, and responsibilities— not only as parents, but as rulers raising a future Firelord. The one thing they promise themselves: to do better than their own parents, for their daughter’s sake.
...
Snapshots of Izumi’s childhood, from birth to her teenage years. Written as part of Maiko Week 2024, Day 4: Parents

Mai stared straight into Izumi’s eyes. And if she looked hard enough, she could see herself reflected in them: the nine-year-old girl who clung to the shadows for comfort—who dwelt in darkness, incapable of conjuring up even a small flame to light her path and keep the evil spirits at bay.

Summary
Through the lens of his own fatherhood and his marriage, Zuko sees his family in new ways.
(this started out so contained and nice, a little one-shot, and then the freaking fire nation attacked and it's grown a mind of its own, so... I'll throw it in my rotation of updates, I guess.)

"You can tell, you know?" says Sokka, his voice soft. It's the first time he's spoken since Zuko told him their story.
Zuko looks at him, furrows his brow in question.
Sokka slides his hand across the bench so just the tips of their fingers touch. He tilts his head and smiles at Zuko, soft but so, so warm.
"You can tell that she's yours."
or
Single dad Zuko is trying his best, and then Sokka comes along.

NOT a multific but instead a return! Stand alone! These are scenes/snippets/shots written for my fic, beautiful boy, that did not make it in the final version. this is a "what if?" of sorts
these will be more clunky, and have some repeated dialogue/phrases from beautiful boy bc these are the first drafts! what ended up on the cutting room floor! i am always curious about other fic writer's process and apart of mine is writing a few versions of stuff, so i thought why not publish them for nothing else but to give a peek at my "process" (how fancy and refined)
hese are the "outtakes" of sorts that i've compiled from all the pieces that i decided didn't flow or add anything or felt ooc that i still think are worth something. anywhoooo if you want more of this universe, here is this! hope you enjoy:)
rly, these are for like 3 ppl who love the og like i do:)

Summary
Aang knew grief like an old friend. In his youth, it had been painful to grapple with the idea that the Air Nomads were gone, that he was truly alone. He knew deep down that no matter what he did, that weight on his shoulders was so heavy it would follow him into his next life. Spirits help his successor.
But this time, it was different. This was new. The emptiness that often accompanied the pit in Aang’s stomach was replaced with something sickening. His body rejected the possibility of Bumi’s death like poison. It wasn’t real. He had to be alive.
OR: When he's 19, Bumi II gets hurt in the United Forces and his family is told he is missing in action. Aang and Katara try to be there for their son and Tenzin and Kya navigate the new dynamic as friends and family rally aorund them. We explore family dynamics, being biracial, trauma, and being okay with being not okay.
(includes cloud baby flashbacks!)

It was just one word.
“Father…” the rest of Izumi's sentence faded out of existence as a painful buzzing filled Zuko's head. she stopped talking and stared at him, concerned. “Are you okay?”
It was just one word, and it wasn’t like he hadn’t heard it a thousand times in a thousand different scenarios, but when she said it in that moment, her voice, it reminded him…
