verynotokayWhen malware takes over SecUnit and it nearly kills three of ART's crew, ART is left with two bad options: keep the governor module on with ART as the Client, or partition off part of itself and stick it in SecUnit's head.
Whichever option they choose, they had better make it work, because SecUnit is firmly centered in the crosshairs of its former owner, the most paranoid and ruthless company in the entire corporation rim. As things quickly get worse, destroying the company--something SecUnit has long considered impossible--might just be the only way to survive.

Summary
6.83 hours after the incident, it is quiet on the command deck. My drones have cleaned all traces of blood and fluid from the deck and MedSystem is set to high priority in the front of my feed. And SecUnit sits in the same chair it always does. It's sunken into the cushioning, so still it could be in a shutdown, but I can of course feel that it's awake. I haven't let it out of arm's reach since last night.
We are quiet for a long time.
We have to talk about this, I say eventually.
It takes 18 seconds to respond.
We do not, it says with finality.

But SecUnit and its Preservation humans have seen “super fast organic wormhole drives” before. With the reluctant permission of Perihelion's crew, a distress call is sent to Trellin, and three scientist teams, two sentient research transports, and one SecUnit convene to figure out how (and whether) ART can get its wings back.

Murderbot’s not crying, it’s just got dust in its eyes/everywhere.
Or
Murderbot has a relatively minor compared to everything else it’s been through but still objectively terrible time on a planet.
You wouldn’t understand. You like everything about yourself. I realize I don’t actually know that for sure. I just always assumed it was true. But even if it’s not, ART is an advanced machine intelligence in a highly sophisticated transport body and it loves its function. It can’t understand what it’s like to have flaws that can never be upgraded or patched out because they’re in your human parts. ART doesn’t have human parts. ART isn’t a construct. ART-Drone says nothing for 8.7 seconds, so maybe it’s finally realizing that I’m irreparably flawed. But then it says, I like everything about you, and that makes me feel light and melty on top of all the other things I’m already feeling right now.
