Summary
How long has he been digging out this stupid hole? One hour? Two? Two thousand?
“This better be worth it, you stubborn beast,” Artemy mutters, slowly growing more and more agitated. He’s tired, thirsty, and hungry. He’s about to give up and attempt sprinting past Noukher to get back home when his fingers brush against something hard. His brow furrows together, and he tears away dirt to reveal the wooden surface of something.
Noukher shrieks.
The bull dives forward, and Artemy gets hit hard by his shoulder, which sends him keeling over. After pushing himself back up, Artemy sees Noukher furiously trying to widen the hole with his hooves. Beneath his fervent huffing and grunting, Artemy swears he hears a small sound come from within the pit.
A whimper.

Summary
Though Artemy made his choice to destroy the Polyhedron he realized quickly that he wouldn't be able to live with himself if he didn't at least try to save the earth as well. Between that, saving the town, trying to get closer to a certain prickly prick and convince him to stay in the town, trying to care for his new children, fix up a home for them, and renegotiate the terms the Kin work under in the Bull Enterprise... well, plague or not it seemed like there was a never ending list of things that the younger Burakh needed to so.

Summary
“She likes you, Daniil. Sticky, too.” Artemy spoke tenderly.
"I'm here, that’s all I am.” Daniil answered back when he was able to compose himself. "Should I leave, they would adapt to it easily and find a new passing interest... or fill in the vacancy in with another presence." He kept his words ambiguous; he knew that in the core of the concept, there wasn't a mystery, he would stay until they told him it was time to go... and there many ways to tell him to go. He was always listening for them. There was a sweetness and bitterness to the new experience, timidly coming in slowly in his life, and knew it can be torn from him. He didn't know if it would be a mercy or a tragedy if it was. He still didn't know if it was a welcomed distraction, or if it was a distraction at all.

Daniil learns fatherhood can be sweet, sour, or a mixture all at once.

Summary
Suddenly, Daniil’s hands were on him. For a moment, Artemy was scared that Daniil had snapped, that he was going to save them both from the inquisition the only way he knew how. His delicate gloved hands grabbed onto the collar of Artemy’s smock with shocking force. Artemy was used to seeing those hands performing such precise work. Autopsies, microscopy, tissue sampling. Never before had he seen Daniil use his strength, and there was more of it than Artemy had expected.
“Come on, help me up here.” With that, Daniil leaned in, and pulled himself upward. Unsure of what to do, but hoping an innocuous explanation would present itself, Artemy closed an arm around Daniil’s waist, then lifted. After all, who asks the man they’re about to kill for help getting the job done? Daniil followed suit, wrapping his arms around Artemy’s neck and his legs around Artemy’s waist. Artemy moved his hands to support Daniil by his thighs. He squeezed, feeling the muscles of the thighs beneath his fingers. Rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, tensor fasciae latae.

Summary
“Sorry,” Artemy whispers. “Did I wake you?”
Stakh is silent. Artemy is still charmed by the way he sleeps—with his hands tucked towards his chest, his chin pressed to his shoulder—even if it is terrible posture. When he turns his face is still tender with sleep, relaxed around the edges in a way it never is in the daytime. Something in Artemy’s chest squeezes and he turns, tongue too-big in his mouth, stomach churning.
“No,” Stakh says after a long beat. “It’s cold.”
It is; Artemy can see his breath fogging up in front of him. March is stretching out into a long, harsh winter. He presses his fingertips to the edge of the window pane and tiny droplets condense from the heat.
There’s more rustling. Artemy glances behind him again—the sight of Stakh with the duvet wrapped around his shoulders is enough to startle a smile out of him.
“Go back to bed,” Artemy tells him. “Maybe sometime between this century and the next you’ll make up for all that missed sleep.”
“It snowed again,” Stakh murmurs.
“I think it’ll keep until spring.” Artemy sways a bit—lets himself lean minutely into Stakh’s warmth, tentatively, like he’s a cat that will spook with sudden movement.
