Summary
Three words pulsed through their brain, reopening old scars and sawing deeper through fresh wounds. Three words can hold so much meaning, put together broken pieces and rip you apart beyond recognition and repair. Three words two immortal beings left between them, unspoken yet somehow never unsaid.
Three words that a long fallen angel needed more than anything. Several three word phrases burned all too fresh through their skull, they shouldn't hurt so much.
Words and the lack thereof shouldn't pierce straight through him. Shouldn't leave their mind, once full of creative chaos and too many thoughts, so heavy with an all encompassing emptiness.Shouldn't leave a demon sobbing in a crumpled heap.
Blood and tear stained notebook pages find their own way to the newly appointed archangel, the words formed by the scrawl of an old ballpoint pen deciding for itself that they need to be read, and who they need to be read by.
They read themselves aloud to Aziraphale.
or: crowley is left wrecked and completely alone on earth - hated by heaven, loathed by hell and seemingly despised by aziraphale -how will our hero cope? he doesn't.

The thing about mourning a death is that it comes with some excuse: a burnt bookshop, Aziraphale nowhere on earth, not even having said fucking goodbye –now that is the kind of thing that gives you every right to get off your head at some dingy pub and whine ‘til closing.
This feels –too close maybe. Too much of his own heart is in it. Too much showing behind his cracked ribs in that little speech –too much and too little both said and shown; too fast to assume, to hope. A rush of weighted, heavy words and a world of the last three years in which "we're better than that" might have actually been true. How to explain that to a roomful of absent strangers? To a wine glass? How could they imagine the crush of a cumulative millenia spent wanting?
Crowley is found wanting on the floor of his living room.
