"Fuckin' what?" He tried to say, but it came out as bloody bubbles. Blood spilled down his chin as a shark yanked him under the water and wrestled countless rows of sharp teeth into his legs. The frenzy began.
Hundreds, maybe thousands of sharks ripped through Quint's body. He couldn't even scream as his blood coated the ocean red. He could see scraps of clothing rising up to the surface as the sharks tore through his body like a thousand chainsaws.
Or, after a terrifying nightmare, Quint has a revelation that may or may not include Matthew Hooper

"I'm not scared!" Hooper snapped, jerking his shoulder away from Quint. "The sea is my home, I live to study it, that's all I'm meant to do! All this talk 'bout fear, it's nothing! I'm not scared!"
"Take a damn swim, then, Matthew. The water won't even go past your waist before you're turnin' tail and bolting back to dry land," Quint steadied himself on the wall, his eyelids lowering into a glare. "Don't try to ignore this."
"Shut up!" He swung his arm before his brain could register what he was doing.Or, after Quint is released from the hospital, he tries to convince Hooper to take a break and admit he's scared.

His shoulders were shaking, his lungs burned and his heart was pounding loud in his ears. He couldn't tell if he was crying or if it was just sea water dripping down his face. Quint's blood reached for him and encircled him until the screaming stopped, and the shark slipped away.
Jolting forward, Matthew's hand latched onto his chest, and he released a strangled sob. His eyes were wide open, with tears streaming down his cheeks. A hand on his shoulder stopped him from standing, and Matt had to take a moment to calm his hysteria. He stared up at the ceiling for a few long moments before he turned his head to face Quint in bed beside him.
"Another nightmare, eh?" Quint whispered, then grunted as he sat up to comfort the other man.
"Yeah, I just." Matt's voice trailed off, then his breath hitched and he buried his face in his hands. "I don't know."
"I still have nightmares from the Indianapolis," Quint shrugged. "There's no rhyme or reason to these things, it just happens. I'm here."
After a brief moment of silence, Matthew nodded. "Yeah. You're here."Or, after waking up in the dead of night, Quint comforts Matt in more than one way.
