Dani curled around the new ball of warmth at her stomach, letting her head fall beneath the blankets so she was fully enveloped. Even still, she was shivering hard enough to make her teeth chatter and joints ache. Blankets weren’t enough. Dani wanted to lay in a bonfire. She wanted hot coals to rub over her skin. She wondered if Finbar would let her take a nap in the oven. Probably not.
After the crew’s adventure in the Frostfell, Dani catches the opposite of a fever and is left feeling very cold

“What’s upsetting you, Dani,” Kyana asked, her focus not leaving Dani’s fingers. She wrapped another layer of protection over the skin.
Dani swallowed. “Nothing.”
It wasn’t a lie.
She was just like this sometimes. Nothing had caused it. All the unproductive thoughts she could usually push aside had just decided today was the day everything would be excruciatingly hard. The only thing that made it pass quicker, was moving, working, being useful. It helped distract her from everything, the numbing static in her mind, the overwhelming feelings, the concerned stares she got that made her want to vomit.
“I’m just like this,” she muttered.It’s not easy to take care of yourself.

Kyana didn’t say anything, just traced the contours of Dani’s spine with her fingers, eventually smoothing her entire hand over Dani’s skin and rubbing behind her shoulder blades with her thumbs. Dani couldn’t help but relax under her hands. The prolonged skin to skin contact was something she was not at all familiar with but found that she liked a lot. She had been touched before, just not… like this. Never so gently. She leaned back slightly as Kyana’s calloused hands messaged the back of her neck, right where it often cramped up.

In one motion, Kyana swept Dani off the chair and into her arms. She waited a moment, making sure Dani wasn’t dizzy, before walking to the bedroom and setting her down on the bed. As soon as Kyana had climbed in after her, Dani scooted over and pressed her face to her neck, curling up to her chest like a cat. Kyana felt her lips tilt up at Dani’s clinginess. It was a rare opportunity for her to be this touchy.

Kyana felt so confused, but panic surged through her as she realized the being had lifted her into the air, that they were suddenly high above the monastery. She clung to the claws that were holding her, desperate not to fall even if she didn’t like being closer to the terrifying being that had been threatening the priars.
Just as suddenly, Kyana heard a soft voice. “You’re safe and shall not fall, I will make sure of that.” Kyana almost didn’t process that it came from the scaled creature that was carrying her through the air, the voice was so much kinder than what had been aimed at the priars. “Try to stay calm, we’ll land very, very soon. We’ll talk then.”

The story largely plays in a Not For Profit Coffeeshop run by Finbar and Elyse, financed and owned by Hira, to give back to the city he lives in (as demanded by the citys administration).
