Nicole coyly looks up at her, the corners of her mouth fighting a smile, until Ruby snaps and pulls her closer on the counter. Kisses her. Hard. Sloppier now. Nicole’s head tilts back. She whines—needy and unfiltered. Loud and unabashed. Ruby’s teeth catch on her earlobe.
And then—
The front door clicks open."

”Please, just give me a chance to explain myself. I miss you.” She cuts Ruby off, stepping closer to Ruby, who quickly backs away.
”Ruby, can you come over here, please?” Nicole’s voice cuts the two out of their tense conversation, Ruby swiftly taking the out and walking to Nicole by the bar.
”Thank-“ Before Ruby can say anything, Nicole takes her wrist and pulls her down, connecting their lips in a quick but tender kiss. Ruby freezes, eyes wide and face turning a deep shade of red at the gesture. She can hear her coworkers reacting with chuckles or surprise around her and Cheyanne scoffing loudly, and the sound of her shoes on the wooden floor dwindling away. Once the two girls break apart, Nicole is watching Cheyanne leave as Ruby stands frozen.

It wasn't different at Bistro Huddy. No one had ever called her a slut to her face, nor said anything about it with any heat behind it, but Nicole heard the jokes about her flirting with everyone, about playing with everyone's feelings. She laughed with them, happy to play the part of the blonde seductress that was assigned to her. But the jokes got old, and they stung as much on the 100th time as they did on the first.
