It's almost like a hug. Jesus, what the hell is wrong with his head? He blames the Quaaludes from last night, must be some lingering effect. “... coupled with the fact that I ain’t stupid.”

Smoke curls out from his mouth and sneaks up under his ear all secret, and Marty turns his eyes away like he’s been slapped. For a second, before he catches himself, Marty thinks: God, the ass I could pick up if I looked like that.

“You gon’ comb through the Yellow Pages?”
Rust gave him a blank look. “I’m takin’ the car. Don’t wander off.”“Later, Rust” Marty called out to the wind. Off the taxman went.
He skirted near the holel and stared detachedly— tried to, at least. It was hard; he hadn’t seen a crime scene like this since the bust.

It feels like an eternity passes between them before Rust finally speaks, soft as anything. “Yeah. Yeah, Marty, please.”

Marty’s voice was low, he stared at Rust, but he hadn’t let go of Rust’s jeans. Rust moved towards Marty, his hand pressing the seam of Rust’s jeans harder. Rust looked at Marty, deeply, reading every inch of his soul through his confused eyes.
