As Rusty stops coughing his breathing coming in short little huffs as he attempts to reset pattern of his breathing Linus see’s his fingers clasp around something, light and nimble in an effort to make it disappear but one pickpocket recognizes another and Linus’s hand darts out and grabs his arm, his fingers lithe and strong as they wrap around his wrist.
Rusty meets his eyes panic etched in the blue where Linus has come to expect complete confidence and that shakes Linus more than anything has in years.
Linus gives Rusty’s wrist a squeeze in a silent demand to get him to open his fingers and show him what he had tried to hide.
“Linus…….” Rusty protects but Linus refuses to budge, meeting his eyes with a stubborn persistence that even Rusty himself couldn’t match or hope to escape.
Rusty’s fingers unclench revealing a fistful of shimmering gold and pure white petals spattered in blood and suddenly Linus is the one who can’t breathe.
