Earlier today, videos were filmed and posted that showed a man jumping out of the Fischer Enterprise building, identified as Robert Fischer. This comes as a shock, two years after the passing of his father and the inheritance of the company. Many say that this is the first case of someone being directly harmed by the effects of extraction—a practice in which someone will enter a person's dream and extract information from their head—as Robert Fischer himself said in his suicide letter that he believed he was a victim. Others cite different mental health issues as the cause of his suicide."

Robert knows that it happened. He knows he was extracted from, and it nags at him.
He felt it immediately, the moment he stepped off the plane, and that feeling never left him again.
He remembered. A taxi, a kidnapping, a hotel, a snowy mountain. Always the same people, their faces blurred, the exact same words spoken, invading his life and taking control of it forcibly.
Something was wrong, it was abundantly clear, and it was destroying him.

Saito examines the hands in front of him. They emerge from his cuffs, and move when he wants them to, but they are not his hands. Saito’s hands are wrinkly, like his grandfather’s had been, curled over the arm of his chair while he told Saito stories about dream eaters. Saito’s hands shake from Parkinson’s, just like his mother’s had, and half of one of his fingernails is missing from when he forgot to dream up joists and a ceiling fell on him.
The hands on the hotel desk are only just starting to crease with age. There’s an ink stain on the thumb, and as he stares at it, he has a faint memory of a pen breaking. Of fruitless scrubbing in the men’s restroom, and brown paper towels stained blue in an overflowing wastebasket. It happened yesterday morning. It happened fifty years ago.
