“I can’t stay, man, I had to- like, pre-schedule myself to get this slot,” Samir says to a couchbound Paul Baker, shoving his foot into a shoe. “Anton!”
And there it is, the inevitability of facing what you’ve been running from. Anton’s least favorite way that reality bites.

Summary
Anton is about to compliment Issa’s makeup when she looks at him with wide eyes. “He's here.”
“Who is he? Not very descriptive for a girl with ‘storyteller’ in her Instagram bio—"
Issa firmly plants her hands on the side of Anton’s arms, preventing him from turning around. Whatever. He’s expecting it to be someone unimportant. Maybe from college, oh, or the guy Issa thought was trying to sex traffic them at the grocery store solely because he wound up in the same aisle as them three separate times.
“It’s… Jacob.”

Summary
Now, in the kitchen illuminated only by Billie’s flashlight, Anton couldn’t even begin to decipher what Paul Baker was feeling.
There was the infinitely slim possibility that Paul Baker was staring with the same longing that Anton felt, but they had always had different ways of expressing themselves, so he refused to convince himself that this option was the case.
There was the more likely option: that he thought nothing had changed, that everything was as it should be. Anton thought he could live with this; he figured it would probably be better for everyone this way. Issa wouldn’t get hurt in the mix—just Anton.

Summary
“Samir, shut up. Anton, do you think he’s cute?”
“Huh?” Anton snaps out of his trance.
Issa huffs. “Do you think,” she shoves her phone in his face, “he’s cute?”
“Oh my god, I’ll tell you if you get out of my space for a second,” he squints and pushes her arm away, trying to get a good look at the picture. Good jawline, solid head of hair, nice muscles, kind eyes. He’s attractive, in a young Charlie Swan kind of way. He also looks potentially insufferable. The nail polish, the rings decorating one hand with an iced coffee in the other. Anton’s shocked that his crocheted sweater top isn’t adorned with the words ‘6’4 feminist.’

“Ok, mindwipe?”
“Mindwipe.”
“What do you want for your birthday?”
“Ok, mindwipe?”
"Yes, we've established that."
Maybe it was the courage provided by mindwipe, or yet another reminder of his almost year long dry spell but the words fell out of Anton’s mouth before he could even realize what they were, “Paul Baker.”

Summary
“Hi! Welcome to—oh!” Issa blinked, momentarily thrown. “Sorry, we were expecting someone else.”
Two men stood outside the door, each holding a bouquet of flowers. One had warm brown eyes and a neatly trimmed mustache; the other, piercing blue eyes and a scruffy beard.
The man with the blue eyes smiled politely. “Hi, um... does Paul Baker live here? We were told to come to this address.”
Anton stepped forward. “Yeah, he does. Sorry, how do you know him?”
The man with the mustache spoke up. “We’re his parents.”
There was a beat of stunned silence.
Then, in perfect unison: “Paul Baker has gay dads?!”

Summary
He knocked on the door at the end of the upstairs hallway, rocking on his feet as he listened for quiet footsteps. The door opened slowly, and Paul Baker's breath escaped him.
"Oh. Hi."
Paul Baker blinked, stared at Anton for a moment.
"Mindwipe?"
