Re; Stanley is touch-starved, that much was obvious.
Being alone, physically alone, in a simulation for lord knows how long does things to your mental health, believe it or not.
Again, Stanley had stayed in the broom closet for far too long, just hugging his bucket
Sure, he could have gone to the employee lounge to hug a pillow - but his bucket, his, the one decorated with stanley's ‘found stickers’ [really just given by narrator], made him feel special.
It was like the bucket was a real human to Stanley, like he was hugging a real person. It never failed to stop the coil of his chest from getting too big, always calming him down as his feeling of Longines dwelled away after a few minutes, or a few hours if it was overwhelming

Summary
It’s not that Stanley expected something to change. No, that would be ridiculous. Change was something Stanley rarely had the privilege of experiencing, and he had grown quite used to that fact. Living the same day over and over with very little variation for who-knows-how-long would certainly condition a person to expect nothing but the same routine, the same narrations, the same endings; sure Stanley was given choices, but he already knew where each one led. The choices were hardly his. Every outcome was dictated by the Narrator, and every path already lay before him, predetermined.
So no, Stanley didn’t expect anything to change. Why would he?

This is my first fic that I'm gonna actually try to write more than one chapter for so it's a learning experience, lower your expectations by a large margin. Enjoy! (or not, I won't tell you what to do.)

Stanley opens the door with a flourish and bows, a clear “After you” gesture. He can’t stop himself from innocently batting his eyes.
The Narrator smiles like he bit into a lemon. “Cheeky brat,” he mutters under his breath, before striding through the door with his head held high. Stanley follows behind with the biggest shit-eating grin.
It's a sunny Sunday afternoon, perfect weather for ice cream at the park and a run-in with adoring fans. Even better when your boyfriend can't stop acting like an absolute gremlin.

Before Stanley can ask what “ah” means, there’s a shifting at his side and without warning, a chaste kiss pressed to his forehead. Stanley’s eyes shoot open and he knows the Narrator can hear him suck in a surprised breath.
“Knew I was forgetting something,” the Narrator mumbles, before he settles back down.
Stanley lies wide-awake in the dark, staring up at the ceiling, knowing with sudden clarity he won’t be able to sleep at all.
