Seriously, what would Tenna even do without Mike? No one else but him would put up with all the ridiculous requests, the late nights singing stupid lullabies, the constant pep talks and the ensuing clinginess that overcame Tenna whenever he was in a bad mood. Not even the other two took their tasks seriously, they didn't put any backbones into it, not like Mike did.
The possibility of Tenna never needing Mike again didn't exist. It couldn't exist.

Which is exactly why he brought Tenna to the cushy hot-spot – celebrating the launch of a new segment on TV Time. Speaking of Tenna, the Addison slunk further down into the black and blue leather booth he was sitting in as his eyes lolled over to the old man. Spamton’s gaze watched Tenna’s boxy head, noticing how it hung a little lower than usual. More than that, Tenna was smaller than usual. “Something the matter, big shot?” Spamton gruffed with a leering grin.

Immune systems? Germs? No, that would make too much rational sense. The Dark World, living in the beckoned shadow of its sunlit counterpart, did not bother with such frivolous things as ecosystems. Illness, for the most part, tended to be completely figurative and symbolic. Maybe an object being stored in undesirable conditions, or experiencing some sort of malfunction, anything along those lines.

She'd repeatedly pleasured Tenna with her bony fingers and trembling hands, but she never dared to let her darling do anything in return, keeping her broken heart firmly hidden. Now she thinks it's foolish. Why this fear, if she felt so safe with Tenna?

Tenna stands at the mountain's edge, feeling the sun shine completely on his pale white body. He hasn't felt the sun rise in so long...it felt sublime...albeit subliminal. He didn't think he'll be able to see it until now. To have the rays glisten against his chitin like it did years ago.
However, looking at the body in his lower arms, he knew humans don't last that long...or the fact that his beloved mailman presumably went to look for him only to die alone somewhere...thinking about him. He was always so stubborn...so much of a justice-seeking daredevil that he'd persist when it wasn't necessary. If he'd tried, that amount of determination will melt him on the spot!
And now...what became of him as they both looked at the edge of the universe together.
As strong as the human soul is...he knew a reunion wouldn't work if they were both alive.
...But why must it hurt so bad?
OR
After the barrier is broken, Tenna finds Spamton's body and buries it, waking the latter up.

Tenna's potential partners needed to learn one thing as soon as possible: Ann was an incredibly anxious and nervous darkner. So when her girlfriend suddenly disappeared in broad daylight, the first thing she did was start to worry. No note, no warning, none of the staff even caught a glimpse of her – it was as if the woman had simply vanished. Even Ramb, who always managed to stay on top of even the smallest events while remaining in one place, knew nothing. When she managed to reach her by phone, Spamton told her some utter nonsense that made Tenna's wires feel like they were twisted.
As they said goodbye and the room fell into a heavy silence, the same words kept repeating themselves in Tenna's head.
A couple of weeks.
A couple of weeks at least.
She’ll spend at least this week and the next alone.aka Spamton leaves the TV world to hide her molt.

He became aware of it early, only a bit after he’d adjusted to his other, more obvious changes. He’d been running from a Werewire and cracked his head against the ground. It should have been a hard enough hit to have his skull splitting with agony. Instead, it had been next to nothing, barely more noticeable than a day-old papercut. He’d thought maybe it was the adrenaline. But even hours later, once the fear of the fight had worn off, he still felt nothing but a mild itch around what he learned, thanks to the reflective surface of a shattered laptop he found in one of the dumpsters, was a crack extending all the way from above where his right eyebrow had once been down to the bridge of his nose.
OR: After finally reuniting with Tenna and getting to feel safety for the first time in over a decade, Spamton gets the chance to actually absorb the consequences of some of the other parts of his transformation. Like the fact that having your nerves either pulled out or wrapped in plastic instead of skin deadens your sense of touch, and takes away all the comfort that goes with it.

Minutes dragged on as she stared at the screen, the desire to sleep fading as she imagined herself in a small cage, hanging alone somewhere. Suddenly the image distorted, the brightness wavered, and the monitor turned on again with a loud hum. The women stared at each other.
"You're not sleeping," the CRT half-whispered sleepily, either asking or simply stating.-
