Alongside encountering snow, mountain goats, and stuck-up Kings, he also meets a blond mage, who is infuriating, ridiculously flirtatious, and, okay, beautiful. “Am I really getting a lesson on moral values from some low-life thug?” Xiao Lang asked in a cocky tone, holding back a disdainful chuckle.
“Say whatever you want. I may be a thug, but I’m not the one taking advantage of an innocent princess and her unfortunate situation,” he said, pausing to shoot Xiao Lang a disappointed glare, “you think about who the real low-life is.”
Keiji turns to head back inside, leaving Xiao Lang alone to ponder his carefully chosen words. They were almost laughable. Sakura’s situation had nothing to do with him, Xiao Lang was just doing his job and collecting his reward. It’s not his fault the neighboring kingdom was invading...but he was profiting from it. The young ruffian thinks about Sakura, her kind words, her smile, and how compassionate she seemed to be. Did she really deserve to be taken advantage of in such a way? She did, after all, place her trust in him.
“Somethin’ she sees in you,”
Keiji's words echoed throughout Xiao Lang's mind causing him to momentarily grit his teeth in dissent. Xiao Lang was a street rat, a thief, and a delinquent, there was nothing more to see.
