Just when he begins to turn, Murdoch says, “Young lord.” It’s a command, not a request. Clive’s head snaps to look at him—and his heart pounds funnily at the strange quirk of a smile on the older man’s lips. “It will be a pleasure to travel with you, I’m sure.”
Stammering a vague agreement, Clive takes his leave. And then takes a cold, cold bath, his skin so hot that the water steams when he steps into it. If only he could bring that steam with him to hide the unfortunate erections the Lord Commander seems to be the frequent cause of.

“Not so much… I mean… sort of.” Clive runs a hand through his hair and laughs shakily. “I was just curious what these ‘battle celebrations’ were all about, since I’ve never been involved.”

Or, despite the camaraderie, Clive doesn't quite feel like he belongs with the other Shields. Tyler and Wade mean to prove him wrong, if he's amenable.

Unfortunately, the Night of Flames and years of being on the run, hunted by their enemies, and many bloody battles has left Joshua's mind fragmented. Luckily, Clive is there to step in when Joshua is unable to act: for example, when Waloed hosts a dinner in honor of its alliance with Rosaria, and a certain Lord Commander eagerly awaits a certain Shield's arrival.
Fraught with alliances and betrayal, honesty and subterfuge, far more awaits Clive in Cid's bedchambers than lust and passion.
