Summary
Dave finds himself wallowing in misery at the foot of his brother's grave, when a pale man in an equally pale suit pulls a gun on him. Dave is dead, bro is dead, and everything is hopeless. That is, until Karkat finds Dave's spirit wondering aimlessly around his grave plot. Karkat takes him to the Realm of Reapers, where Dave was expected by the Omnipotent One was expecting him. Dave is to become a reaper of time, and collect souls. He is to be partnered with the annoyed and begrudging Angel of Blood, Karkat Vantas himself. Can Dave manage his new job? Will he be able to handle the life after death, and what about his promised reward for death; His Brother?

Summary
Your name is Karkat Vantas, and you are a mutant, a freak of nature with red blood, which is frowned upon. You have been safe for many sweeps, but now your eyes have betrayed your blood color and you have beem practically exiled onto an alien planet. It's a suicidal mission that only your superiors know about, and not one of your friends do.
You are captured and taken into captivity, where you are tortured for information and studied like a caged animal because your species is alien to these...To these humans. These awful humans with their needles and weapons of torture, trying to hear you scream and decipher a language out of it, to see how you react to blood of animals.
Eventually one of your friends hears of your capture and gathers a rescue team, but you have fallen for one of the humans there.
Now your friends don't trust you either. You have affiliated yourself with the humans who have tortured you, and they don't know if you are a friend or an enemy. Everything is so mixed up and screwed that you feel like vomiting your own blood.

Thinking this manages to only get him one place, though, and that place is facing an awkward confrontation on the couch where his brothers figure out several things and where he starts over in New York and meets a pale kid he met on the roof (who's dying of cancer, by the way) and a boy who's really good at piano and has a really cute smile. And even if he can't figure out why, he thinks that just maybe these two are reason enough to live a while longer.
