"It's actually pretty simple. Hedges usually only bother with it when they think someone is unloved and alone, because it's a double-whammy, see? You start dying, slowly and painfully, and you also get the knowledge that if you weren't such a dickhead and you had true love in your life, you'd be totally fine."

Summary
Not leaving the apartment for days on end was becoming a regular occurrence for Quentin. The seclusion began during his recovery where his friends would visit him when they weren’t visiting Eliot at Brakebills but Margo never really left Eliot’s side and Julia was spending an increasing amount of time relearning her limits with magic. So, when Alice was the only one bothering to visit Quentin, it didn’t take long for the conversations to turn into fights about how Quentin’s wish for death had almost come true and how much it hurt for her to see him almost die and how dare Quentin make her watch him almost get blown to bits.
[Or the one where Quentin is in a bout of depression when he comes across one of Eliot's playlists entitled "Quentin" that just so happens to be filled with love songs.]

Eliot Waugh and Quentin Coldwater have a job that doesn't exist, it's dangerous and confidential. Eliot doesn't even know how to describe their job. Spies? Assassins? Interrogators? Hit-Squad? They do what they're told, that's the job really. Someone points and they shoot, someone gives them questions and they get answers. Eight months ago Quentin disappeared. A job went bad and Quentin was just plucked from the face of the Earth and Eliot learned that he can't live without him.

Summary
Eliot’s pain was a hollow thing. For weeks during his recovery he’d been too numb to feel it, the emptiness growing inside, but once he finally could he’d spent a not insignificant amount of time wondering if the Monster had taken his shade. It made sense, sort of, aside from all those times that he couldn’t stop crying. It was like someone had come along and scraped out all the goodness he’d had left. There was nothing now. Just a deep, pulsing blackness where once there had been so much light.
aka the one where Eliot is so desperate to bring Quentin back he's willing to do almost anything, even if that means losing himself in the process. Canon divergent after 4x13.

Summary
Quentin cuts off when his brain catches up to his rambling and drops his gaze self-consciously. Of all the times to over-share, Half A Drink Deep in Eliot Waugh's Kitchen might really be the worst he's ever managed. He takes another sip and raises his glass a little, fighting the urge to cringe. "And I'm a lightweight," he finishes, trying for a joking tone. "But you probably guessed that already."
He risks a glance up at Eliot to find the other boy looking back at him with a smile, but it's not mean or jeering like Quentin had expected, it’s… soft, almost. It throws him so much that he forgets to look away, even when Eliot reaches out to take the half-empty drink from his hand. "I won't say the thought hadn't crossed my mind," Eliot hums, swapping out Quentin's glass for his own full one.
or: Quentin falls asleep at a house party and wakes up in Eliot's lap, to his horror (and Eliot's endearment), but at least it’s a hell of a conversation starter.
