One month ago, if you had asked Will Byers what he’d do if Mike Wheeler threaded his fingers through his hair, looked him dead in the eyes, and started leaning in for a kiss, he wouldn’t have said this.
He wouldn’t have said he’d be staring right back into those yawning dark eyes, one hand on Mike’s waist, the other against his cheek. There wouldn’t have been any lightning in his veins or blood rushing in his ears.
He wouldn’t have said that Mike Wheeler would be tilting his head in the opposite direction, eyes widening just the slightest as if asking permission, his mouth slightly parted.
He wouldn’t have imagined it at all.

“Dustin’s your Tammy?” And it shouldn’t bother him. Not really. But what the fuck? What does Dustin have that Mike doesn’t?
“Dustin is, without a doubt, not my Tammy.” Will hums, serene as can be. Which is pretty annoying, considering Mike’s sort of wanted to fight Dustin since the words came out of his mouth.
“Oh. You’re sure?”
“Pretty positive, yeah.” Will laughs.

“What do you want me to do?” Mike whispers.
“Just… talk to me about something,” Will answers, trying to still the hammering of his heart. “Like, literally anything.”
And Mike, having apparently been born with the ability to talk the ears off of anything in a room, does.
Seven years after his disappearance, Will is still putting the fragmented pieces of himself back together. He's certainly no stranger to nightmares — they've been his routine for as long as he can remember — but nightmares in November are especially cruel.
Oh, and Mike's there. He just wants to help.

“In the church,” she adds. “It’s shielded. Old. Quiet. He won’t look for you there.”
Mike’s fingers curl slightly into Will’s jacket, instinctive and protective. “I’ll stay with him,” Mike says immediately, not even looking at Hopper this time. “The whole time.”
El nods. She doesn’t question it, like she knows that’s where he’s always been meant to be. Will exhales slowly, then looks at Mike. “You don’t have to—” he starts.
“I know,” Mike says quietly. “But I want to.”
or; Mike stays with Will in the Upside Down as the group splits, and when Will faces danger in the church where they're hiding, Mike realizes this is his final chance to bring Will back.
