Summary
This is going to be an extended piece. It is set with total acceptance of the Shameless series so far, including Mickey escaping to Mexico and Ian choosing to stay behind, Mickey being a fugitive and all our feelings about that happening.
What I want to write is the story afterwards, the story that I would like to see and I hope some of you will enjoy it too. Thank you for reading and please do let me know your thoughts.

SEASON 6 NEVER HAPPENED.
With no physical evidence to link him to the attempted murder of Sammi, Mickey was released from jail. But being in the can had provided him with a welcome respite from Ian Gallagher and everything that reminded him of their breakup. So Mickey got himself thrown back into big boy prison, for twenty four months, fourteen with good behaviour - a self imposed sabbatical from the annoying redhead that he definitely isn't still in love with. No fucking way.
Ian has spent the past fourteen months slowly getting used to his medication, and learning how to manage his bipolar disorder. He has a new boyfriend but he can't get a certain black-haired, blue-eyed thug out of his mind.
When Mickey is released from prison, the world of the Southside that was intent on keeping them apart, begins to slowly push them back together. Can they make it work this time or are they fucked for life?

Summary
Post 7X11: With no prison cell to cramp his style, Mickey Milkovich gets to start over in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The only problem is he has limited funds, no job, barely speaks Spanish, and has no friends or family there. Oh, and he is a fugitive in hiding.
He couldn't help but send a note to a few folks back home. Each chapter uncovers a little of Mickey's salty seaside life when he receives letters from Chicago.
Excerpt:
He remembered wishing Svetlana would've just had an abortion. Every night he would settle into their marital bed, head spinning as he monitored the growing fullness of her belly. She would lie on her side, her sea green eyes expectantly gazing into his blue eyes. What the fuck was she searching for?She would take his hand and place it against her belly before she kissed him good night. And each and every time he felt a wave of nausea. He didn't want her. He didn't want it. He didn't want a child.
But Svetlana looked forward to this baby, even though it meant she would live in that shithole house. Even though it meant she'd be married to a fag. Even though it meant her life would basically be over.

One more time.
One more time and then he can get the fuck out of Dodge, for good.
Mickey scowls at the skyscrapers rising like Lego blocks from downtown, as the plane circles the South Side preparing to land. The smarter part of him says to look away, but he still ends up running his finger over the window, tracing the lines of familiar avenues and parks. Homing in. Waiting for the city to chew him up and spit him out again. He squishes an ant-sized truck on South Halsted under his thumb and turns away.A very long Ian (Pt I & II) and Mickey (Pt III) POV fix-it. Everything is canon through Season 7; started before S8, so divergent from there onwards.
I don't like to give too much plot away (and there's a lot of it), so I'll just say that Ian's chickens come home to roost and he's forced to choose between Mickey and his family once more. It is largely a drama, but there's a solid vein of black humor running through it and sections of fluff and smut, plus a lot of character exploration.

Summary
Fiona had told him that getting involved with Mickey again would set a match to all of his progress, but in the history of fires that made up a good portion of Ian’s life, Mickey had always been the one to put them out, or at the very least, burn himself trying.
Ian had decided, then, in the middle of the night after everyone had gone to bed, that playing with fire was infinitely better than feeling burned out.
