My face was bright red, and I was certain it was infecting the rest of my body.

I could see her looking at me in amusement and I heard her melodic giggles at my obliviousness.
I was still staring.
Her face jumped in surprise and she quickly scanned my own appearance only to turn a shade of red (much nicer than my violent one) and give me the most adoring smile.
I was still staring.
She’s going to disappear into thin air. I really did make friends with some ancient spirit.

Before Tsukishima could answer, Hitoka found a small snort of laughter bursting out of her.
They both looked at her, startled and pleased.
“Yachi-san,” Tsukishima hummed, faux-scandalized. But she had heard him bicker with the rest of the team enough to hear and see the delight that colored it.

Summary
Growing up, Yamaguchi was bullied for his freckles, making him wish he never had them covering his cheeks. Or at least that's what he thought...
When he asks Shimada for help learning the jump float, he meets Akina Shimada. She is a bright girl with an unexplainable love for volleyball, just trying to help her dad keep the mart running. She was the first girl who didn't plan on using him to get closer to Tsukishima and saw him for who he was. As Yamaguchi comes to practice, he can't help but notice the dark-haired girl.
While Yamaguchi had noticed girls before, she made him feel something else entirely.
