Summary
Slingshot saw the shoreline.
Clear as if he were standing there again.
The rocks were uneven beneath his feet, the ocean stretching endlessly beside them, waves crashing in steady, rhythmic breaths. The air had been salty, sharp, alive.
Coil had been laughing. Not the tight, restrained smirk he’d worn in later years. Not the distant, unreadable expression he’d learned to hide behind.
“You seriously tellin’ me ya never been out here?” Coil had said, walking ahead of him, arms spread slightly as if balancing against the wind. “What kinda life s’that?”
Slingshot—back then, not even Slingshot yet, just a kid trying to figure out where he fit—had shrugged, uncertain. “I just never saw the point.”
Coil had turned then, walking backward along the rocks, grin sharp and challenging.
“That’s because you haven’t seen it with me.”

Slingshot stared at the spot where Coil had been, chest tight, eyes flicking to the mirror again—as if daring his reflection to say otherwise. “Coil, I’m not a—”
“S’fine.” Coil didn’t even look at him when he cut in. His voice was flat, clipped, already halfway gone. Hands shoved deep into his pockets like he needed something solid to keep them from doing something stupid. “Me neither.”

Slingshot’s eye twitched. “You do that on purpose.”
Coil’s grin turned smug. “Do what?”
“Piss me off.”
“Only because you look better when you’re annoyed.” Coil grinned. “Your shoulders get all tense and veins pop.”
Slingshot stared at him in utter disbelief.
Coil, for his part, looked deeply pleased with himself.
The air between them tightened until it felt like every word was a form of contact. Not touch, not exactly, but close enough to make both of them aware of their own bodies: the ache in Slingshot’s shoulders after his set, the solid pull of his back, the heat in Coil’s chest from too many reps and too much smirking. The gym around them faded down into background noise, reduced to the distant sound of weights and music and someone cursing at a treadmill.

“Who’s the cutest in the world?” she asked, her tone teasing, her eyes searching his face. “You are!”
Hakari huffed out a laugh, shifting slightly beneath her to pull her closer, his hands steadying her without thinking. “Nah,” he said, his voice quieter now, steadier. “You’re the cutest. Cutest girl in the entire world.”
Kirara’s reaction came quick, her shoulders tensing before she leaned back just enough to put space between them, her face flushing despite herself. “Kya! You’re embarrassing, Kin!” she protested, her hand coming up to shove lightly at his face.
The movement landed a little harder than intended, and Hakari recoiled slightly, bringing a hand up to his nose with a wince. “Yeah,” he muttered, the word half-laugh, half-complaint.

Satoru didn’t understand it—not fully, not in the way he used to understand everything about Suguru without asking. There had always been a kind of quiet fluency between them, something unspoken but reliable as breath. Now it felt like trying to read a language he used to know by heart and suddenly couldn’t pronounce.
Brokeback hadn’t changed, not really. The same long stretch of land rolling under a sky too wide to belong to anyone. The same wind dragging itself through the grass like it had somewhere to be but didn’t mind taking its time. Even the fire burned the same—low, steady, crackling in a way that filled silence without quite breaking it.
But Suguru had, or maybe it was just that he’d started acting like he had.

In a world full of smells, bite marks, and too many days off caused by unexpected heats and ruts, Kenny Ackerman doesn’t give a fuck.
He has a mission (to raise and protect his nephew), and he pursues it stubbornly and by any means necessary (whether it is taking on two jobs at once through the temp agency he works for, or spending nearly half his life on suppressants so he isn’t distracted by idiotic primal urges).For the most part, things go well. Pretty well, actually. Playing the role of a beta can even be fun - apart from the moments when Kenny has to stand in for bloody idiots who get too wrapped up in the passion of their instincts and can’t be bothered to submit a work absence on time, and maybe some other less stupid reasons.
Then he accepts a job as a friendly and dedicated driver for Uri Reiss, an odd beta who, suspiciously enough, accepts Kenny wholeheartedly and without question, and who almost immediately manages to ruin Kenny’s ordinary and somewhat stable life. Just a little.

You can't stand his pretentious face or his pretentious glasses or the pretentious way he's obsessed with speaking up in your intro-level philosophy class. Unfortunately, you've gotta work with him for your midterm for said intro-level class— and he's friends with, like, half of your friends.
You know you can't tank your midterm, and much to your dismay, he might be a little more than just an annoying obsession with classic philosophy and slightly questionable music taste.
