Wifies blinks.Parrot- he’s just…staring at him. But there’s no way he could be staring at him. No, no way. Wifies turns around, but there’s nobody around. It’s just them and them alone. He turns back towards Parrot. He’s still staring. In fact, he’s staring right at Wifies. It’s impossible, it’s not- unless?- no- it’s not possible. It isn’t. It can’t be.
“Why do you keep following me?” Parrot asks, folding his arms, continuing to glare at Wifies. There’s a thought that pops up in Wifies’ mind, and it’s so dumb that he struggles to believe that he even thought of it. Yet, Wifies furrows his eyebrows together, pointing to himself as he mouths the word, ‘me?’
Parrot scuffs.
“Bro- Yes, ‘you.’ It’s not like you’re very secretive.”
Wifies’ eyes widen.
How can Parrot see him? He’s nothing.

“Sorry about knocking over your dad.” Avery tries, moving to scramble back up, maybe offer a crisp high five.
Derek grabs him by the face, looking into his eyes. Avery let out a small squeak. “Avery.” He said quietly. “That’s not a child. That’s the King in Yellow.”
Avery freezes. Slowly, painfully, he turns his head back to the child in the onesie. There’s something about those eyes. Familiar. He only saw them once but… there had been quite a lot of them. A bit unforgettable.

On New Year's Eve of 2025, Avery has a maybe-fake experience that changes his life. With no way to figure out who Derek is— was— if he was even real, or if they actually saved the world, Avery tries to leave it behind. But he's haunted by what he saw, and what he failed to do, in that Minecraft world as the clock ticked into the New Year.
And then, just as he thinks maybe he can finally move on, Derek finds him. He's alive, and mostly intact, and Avery allows the relief and joy of seeing his friend in real life to overshadow the cracks creeping through Derek's even-keeled facade.
