    Summary

After everything that had happened on Penacony, he’s now caught between an odd set of feelings.

The lingering taste of the deaths that he had experimented with in the Dreamscape is addicting. The feeling of the knife cutting through his flesh, the rope around his neck, the exhilarating rush of air as he fell – maybe he’d had liked to live in that version of Penacony simply to kill himself over and over and over again.

But then there’s those few words that have been stuck in his mind.

Do stay alive. I wish you the best of luck.

Aventurine wants to live, but he also wants to die. He balances these feelings in a slightly unhealthy way.

    Summary

If his eyes could glow, he'd most certainly sell them. Anyone would be a fool not to.

When his information and photo is put onto a black market website with a hefty sum for his head, it is Aventurine himself who takes on the task of infiltrating the market with the intent to either raze it to the ground, or turn it into something profitable for the IPC. Truly, the only entertaining element is that it is Veritas Ratio who must follow him through a swarm of hunters waiting to sink their claws deep into his throat.

    Summary

That Ratio cared about him at all was not a surprise. For all his sternness, there was a wellspring of incomprehensible devotion in him, a doctor’s instinct for the damned. The surprise was how much Aventurine wanted him to. How he’d slipped and lost his footing the moment he’d felt like someone would catch him. Aventurine couldn’t afford that comfort, and Ratio couldn’t afford the trouble Aventurine would bring him, inevitably, the distractions and the nonsense and all the reckless gambles.

Aventurine had cheated fate enough. And Ratio had other battles, more worth his while.

Aventurine had one taste of getting taken care of very kindly, and he felt like he wanted to wrap his tongue around it—to never let go of the taste.

    Summary

Ratio stared back at him with something even more guarded. “I must say, I don’t trust that look you’re wearing.”

    Aventurine played innocent. “What look?”

“That one. Whatever you're thinking up there, I promise you, it’s not as important as being wise.”

Aventurine smiled. “Doctor, I’ve never been wise.”
