The baby cuddled up to Din's side, ears drooping in the fakest and most adorable display of guilt Din had ever seen. Din curled an arm around him, letting him rest his head in the crook between his hip and his legs. The kid sighed contentedly.
Cara fetched the tray with the soup, so hot that tendrils of steam still rose from the bowl. There were a couple of pieces of bread soaking in it: Cara broke them down with a spoon and stirred. A small, nostalgic smile started surfacing on her lips.
"My mother used to say that a bowl of soup is the real food for the soul," she said wistfully. A small smile tugged at her lips. "Because it's warm and comforting, and it always makes you feel better."
Din knew something that had that effect on him. It wasn't soup, though.
Cara cocked her head as if she was observing him.

The Beskar Beast of Nevarro had been a living legend that both protected and terrorized the planet for years. It was a creature of the night, shielded from the sun and his enemies by beskar armour. The Beast required a human sacrifice every two years to keep his bloodlust sated. There were plenty of women on Nevarro, and the likelihood of being chosen was slim- though, you supposed you'd ruined your odds when you took your sister's place as his offering.
After all, what better reason to die if not for love?

Only this time it's a girl, not a child, with Jedi powers and a half-remembered past that forces the Mandalorian to deal with his most recent loss the only way he knows how: by avoiding it entirely, becoming overprotective, making bad decisions and involving himself in yet another sidequest with questionable results.

Joel hummed, “Keep your guard up. I don’t like how quiet it is.” He was tense next to you as he kept his hand hovered over his gun. Joel’s eyes stayed focused on your surroundings, but you also noticed how he moved closer towards you until his arm brushed against yours.
You only nodded in response as you swallowed hard and surveyed around you as well. The building was dark and quiet, not even the echo of a clicker or cry from a runner could be heard. Normally, that would be something to celebrate, but Joel had a feeling that you weren’t alone here, and you trusted him to follow his lead without question.
Your heart pounded in your chest as you felt the warmth of Joel’s arm against yours, but you tried to ignore the nerves that crept up. From the moment you met him, you were completely enamored by him. Between Joel's effortless charm, his kind and protective nature, his smile, his hands… you were completely weak against him. But you kept your feelings buried. Life was hard enough as it was, and you could tell by the look in his eyes that Joel had been through a lot. You loyally stayed by his side and kept silent, not wanting to complicate an already complicated life.
