Summary
Zuko is running.
He has never been one to enjoy such activity, though now he desperately wishes he had done more of it, as every breath pulls harder and harder against his ribs as he bolts through the thick foliage.
He is not built for this.
He is a not a god of hunt, or war, or swiftness.
He is a gentle thing. He is budding blooms, green grass, and warm sun. He is relief, and hope, and prosperity, and baby lambs taking their first wobbling steps.
Though being the god of springtime does not help him right now.

Summary
Commander Kya is appointed governor of the newly conquered Southern Water Tribe, and thrives to do her best to make it a colony like Yu Dao, an example of the prosperity her great nation can bring to the world.
She does not plan to fall in love, but does so anyway.
20 years later, with half the world under Fire Nation rule, the Avatar resurfaces, found by her children Sokka and Katara, and her spiritson Zuko.
This was decidedly not in the job description.

[Sokka takes the page and stands straight to read it.
“Well, shit,” he mutters, setting the paper down and sitting in the chair closest to Zuko with a heavy thump.
“Yeah,” Zuko says.
“What do we do?”
“Find her, I guess,” Zuko answers.
“Find who?” Izumi asks. The men look up to see her behind Sokka, in her light exercise clothes. Zuko actually shivers a little at the striking resemblance between Izumi and—
“Azula,” he answers, his throat oddly dry. He clears it, trying to sound more confident.
“Your sister?” Izumi asks, surprised. “Isn’t she still on that personal prison island?”]
Or
Azula has two conditions before she'll tell Zuko where the hostages are: see Ozai, and see the dragons.

Summary
When Azula is nine, she becomes an only child. She hears the Fire Lord call for Zuko's life, and in the morning, her mother and brother are gone. Azula may be young, but she isn't naive. She knows what happened to them.
Which makes it all the more surprising when Azula tracks the Avatar down and fights his group of peasant friends, only to find herself staring into an eerily familiar face.

Summary
The thing about strings was that if you didn’t want to see yours, or if the spirits willed it, they vanished. Maybe somewhere, deep down, Sokka didn’t want soulmates to exist at all. Life would be easier that way. Less painful.
