On the first night of the first page of the epilogue, they stay close.
There is something about being made near-real, peeling yourself out from lines of pre-written code and basking in the light of a proper moon, that has Phainon reeling like nothing else before. They’re up on the roof of Mydei’s dwelling, watching the stars shine to life with everyone else far below. Somewhere, the triplets, their siblings, and their mother are building a rocket to take them there. A scholar charts them on a map, a weaver pulls them down into cloth. A thief flips a coin and holds it up to the moon, planning the heist of a lifetime. The healer, who previously reigned over the skies, watches quietly with a girl in a butterfly dress. The imperator and her knight look further towards the budding galaxies.
The warrior-prince and the man who was once the embodiment of hatred sit next to each other. There is still a distance between them, born of awkwardness. The burden of duty has finally been lifted and it’s like they’re looking at each other for the first time again.

“Is my Suo trying to charm his way into a private performance?” Leo jokes, preemptively enjoying the furrowed brow he knew he would receive when the words reached his partner. Right on cue, Tsukasa’s face scrunched, and the predictably made Leo grin. It felt so comfortable, to know him.
“I would hardly need to resort to such methods.”
Leo was glad for the reaction, as it gave him a chance to breathe - calm the racing of his heart that strangely made him want to run. Whether towards the feeling or far away, he wasn’t sure, but either option was wrong when it meant running away from Suo.

Summary
Fingers slot between his, hand now bare, and twine them together. It looks so natural, and Leo tilts the locked pair in his grasp, catching all the angles of their union.
“It looks very good, Leo-san.” Tsukasa comments, and Leo turns enough to see Tsukasa glancing over his composition. Barely legible in places, scattered and choppy, it’s a raw example of his partner's creativity, and it’s oddly beautiful for that alone. Readability aside, he’s sure it’s nothing short of a masterpiece. Something tightens in his chest.
While this is all true, and as much as he wants to tell him so all day, it is also true that he’s not really here for that.

Tsukasa would be a Suou until the day he died. But Leo was someone who bulldozed his way into Tsukasa’s life like a storm. Just as quickly as Leo entered, Tsukasa knew he could also leave. Which is why those ugly thoughts started to surface, and why he didn’t want to let Leo go.

Summary
In the dead of summer during Tsukasa Suou's third year, he begged Leo to take him away for a few hours to sort out his thoughts. Four hours away from Tokyo, on the outskirts of Sendai, he wakes up with distorted memories about the entire encounter and the painful truth that the future was full of unknowns. It is impossible to keep everything just the way it is, but worrying so much about the future lets the present slip by like grains of sand.
Despite all of Leo Tsukinaga's quirks, Tsukasa got the feeling that he understood this more than anyone in the dream-like fantasy space that the love hotel room provided.

Summary
Two drafts and one half-rewritten song later, Tsukinaga Leo vanished.
Tsukasa wanted to say he’d gone back to Florence again and forgotten to mention it—he wouldn’t put it past Leo. And Leo had certainly left hundreds, if not thousands, of songs unfinished. What was to say he wouldn’t leave this one unfinished too?
But Tsukasa knew better than that, had always known Leo better than that. He glanced over at the stack of scribbles on sheet music, at the barely visible title at the top of the first page. It was an old song, one from before his time.
We’ll be “Knights.”
