“Imogen please… just talk to me.” Her voice sounded so desperate, even to her. “I can take your anger, but I can’t take the distance.”
And that was the truth of it. The two of them had been joined at the hip almost since day one, and giving her space meant letting it grow between them. And she wasn’t sure she was ready or capable of that.
“You think you can take my anger?” She said with a quiver, and it stung.
“I think I’d try.” She said, her voice breaking.

Imogen woke to a wave of heat brushing her hair back, making her squint into the oncoming harsh light and she was aware of what would greet her even before her eyes focused.
And there it was. The red storm.
Movement along the horizon drew her attention and it surprised her to see 3 people.
Two of them were more shapes than people. One walking with their arms behind their back. A regalness. A pride, carrying them with every step. The second was large and bulky, as if that was their only personality trait.

What if when the Hells first formed, all the tension between Imogen and Laudna had been for that fact that they had a pre established relationship? They just never really told anyone else because, well, they assumed the others would just figure it out. Except, the others saw it as unresolved tension and decide to step in and help the girls realize they are in love with each other. Naturally, this confuses Imogen because why is the gang suddenly trying to push Laudna towards her? Why are they whispering and watching them all the time? Are they jealous? Do they disapprove? What is happening?Just some loving misunderstandings.

Laudna says her name again, but it's rife with nerves. Imogen's tongue darts out to wet her lower lip and she almost misses the moment when Laudna’s tempted to chase it. Almost.

Summary
Imogen can't sleep and finds herself thinking about the Raito charm and her own convictions. Well, one conviction, related to the woman who's humming and sewing in the bedroll next to her.

The needle moves rhythmically back and forth through the fabric, the soft swish swish pleasant and familiar. Laudna’s elbow occasionally brushes Imogen’s arm and their legs are pressed tightly together, a little mismatched with the height difference and Laudna’s position, and a reminder that she’s here. Close.
She hums lowly under her breath, something she’d always done but that Imogen appreciates especially now that she wears the circlet. Tonight it’s upbeat, Laudna’s finger tapping her small hoop where the song calls for percussion.
The tempo is disarmingly cheery but she knows the lyrics Laudna’s not singing: the lament of a man whose spouse was lost at sea. Verses of mourning and missed chances, a list of all the things they’d left behind.
As Laudna taps twice agains the hoop, her mind turns to Iffodola and the Raito charm. Their convictions and their fate in that cave.

Laudna stood barefoot in the kitchen. She stared into an open cabinet like it might hold the answers to some great mystery instead of their haphazard collection of mugs. The curtains above the sink were drawn, and even if the moon had been full, the tall trees outside their home kept the place in perpetual shadow. There was no light, save for the low flame beneath her kettle. The little clock above their kitchen door, shaped like a cat and whirring gently as its eyes flicked back and forth with the fulcrum of its tail, set the time at a quarter past three.
After a nightmare, Imogen convinces Laudna that the life they made is very real.
