Something isn't right in the Northern Continent, and he's the only one up to task to find out what it is. Thing is, he's already busy trying to solve his own mystery- Where is Vincent Valentine? Will finding one help him find the other? Cloud takes the mission, sucking up his dislike for the cold and setting foot in the last place he ever wanted to visit again.

So, since Clive apparently won't do it, Cid decides to take the responsibility on himself. However, Cid's sneaking around isn't quite as sneaky as he thinks, and when caught, Cid denies it all, playing it off like he has no idea who's to blame.

It was something Cloud had become used to over the years, Vincent arriving out of the blue on his doorstep and conversely, on occasion, him on Vincent's. It was something he'd come to expect, even.
No, what caught Cloud by surprise, even after all this time, was how his heart never failed to race the moment he knew Vincent was near, how his breath still caught in his throat as he looked into Vincent's crimson and gold eyes, each and every time just as breathtaking as the first. How his chest ached after they would part, heavy with the need to make what they had more.
It was probably selfish of him to think that way, he thought.

Through a series of not-so-unfortunate events, he shoves his guilt to the side and puts his hard-earned Turk Training to the test to discover to whom they belong. And maybe, just maybe, return them.

Summary
Five years after Drakes Head, Clive finds Cid in an unexpected place.
It was empty. Silent. Dark. Until, it wasn't. Cid’s eyes shot open with a gasp.It felt like he had been holding his breath for eons. His lungs burned as he tried to sit up, not realizing at first that he’d woken up not on the ground or in a bed, but on a large piece of wood, his tired body half-hanging off into icy cold water. Waves picked up and tossed him around violently, almost throwing him entirely into the sea. In a panic he scrambled against the wood for purchase, barely managing to get both his legs back on.
“Fuuuuuuck!” he half screamed, shaking his head. He tossed it to the sky again in hopes to see something, anything, to help him figure out where he was. Nothing but more fog and clouds heavy with rain were there to greet him.
Then, a shimmer of blue light suddenly caught his eye.
Or, a late game fix-it where Cid lives, set during The Rising Tide DLC.
