Bruce Wayne, ever the emotionally constipated man, sat in his chair.
It wasn’t his chair at W.E. where he ditzed, himbo’d, and Brucie’d his way through social calls, fooling every soul into falling for his outgoing, peacock-like persona.
It wasn’t his chair in the Batcave, where he analyzed the trails of long-forgotten cold cases or a string of messy murder scenes, maintaining his broody, self-sacrificing, and ever-so-paranoid bat vigilante persona for colleagues, media, and family alike.
It wasn’t his chair in his sitting room, where he was often found on slow mornings, usually nursing a steaming cup of green tea and sat on the worn leather couch with the latest edition of the New York Times crossword, word search, or other puzzle, opening himself to his family and friends with the simple offer of space and Bruce.
It was, instead, a chair in his study, where only his family was permitted to enter—a safe space and a haven of silence, away from the bustle of people and the rush of crime.

Then, for some godawful reason, the window latch clicks, pane sliding up with a rickety thin sound; Barry snaps his head around, skin raising at his neck as he slams down the kettle — knuckles cracking, hand moving to his belt incase he needs a weapon because Allen luck is just that bad — only to see one Hal Jordan, in full Corps uniform, shove his leg through the window and promptly get stuck in the tiny frame.
The same Hal, who’s wiggling his pelvis so he can jam himself through the panel without dislocating his femur. The same Hal who looks up at Barry, gives a breathy, awkward laugh and asks; “Uh, hi, Bar. Mind helping me through?”
“I—“ Barry doesn't think he’s ever been so glad to see his best friend, something in his chest unwinding at the sight of him being okay. “Hal?”

It doesn't have to be complicated." He spreads his hands. "Here's a story: we're members of the same elite fighting force. After years of saving each other's lives in the field, we fell in love. That's it."
Bruce swallows past the almost-truth of it. In Clark's warm smooth radio voice, it sounds plausible. It sounds like something that could happen.

The annoying thing was that the statues were, in fact, gorgeous.
***Has Clark been dealing Bruce's absence since Batman was banished into the space time continuum? Has he been managing well? Absolutely not. The last thing he wants to do is write about a collection of ancient Greek statues, but the woman in charge is remarkably insistent, and Clark doesn't have the energy to question why she's so determined to tell him stories about the statues' sculptor.
(Meanwhile, Bruce takes the scenic route.)
