Lightning thinks it’s a bookmark, for a split second. But then his vision shifts into focus and he realizes it’s actually a magazine clipping being used as a bookmark. Someone cut out a picture of a young man in very low-riding jeans. The image is captioned Slender Andre has one reader drooling all over the page!
Lightning stares. He squints. He feels numb all over, limbs oddly heavy and tingling, blood pounding in his ears making his own heartbeat sound exactly how it does when he’s under water: echoey, resounding, alien.

“Yeah? Tell me the last time you cared about anything but yourself, and I’ll take it all back,” Doc near whispers, honed in and focused this time, waiting for McQueen to prove his point and finally shatter whatever hope he’s still holding onto about a different life.
Before he has time to react, Lightning darts forward without another word, his sweaty, dirt-crusted hands tangling into Doc’s hair and the curve of his shoulder. There’s a moment where Doc stands still, worried about this all being a joke, so convinced by his fears that he waits for the wet, hungry kiss to steal his breath before he leans into it.
AKA: canon divergence where the argument in the garage goes differently-humans

Asking Fox to punish him avoids days of poor temper, gets every soured emotion out so they can set whatever mess Quinlan made behind them. And for Quinlan, taking whatever Fox wants to give bursts the guilty morass in his chest, lets the putrid emotion transmute and burn away so he can find his balance. Probably not the Jedi way, but if it works…
"Yes," he whispers, gaze locked with Fox's. "Please."

“And . . . I care about you, Anakin,” Mace finishes softly, interrupting Anakin’s thoughts. Tears spring to Anakin’s eyes before he can stop them, his words digging closer to Anakin’s emotions now, and he wishes to hide them in embarrassment, but then Mace raises a hand and cradles Anakin’s cheek with it, warm and firm and comforting. It makes Anakin look up despite himself, look into those deep eyes that always keep him grounded in a universe that makes him feel like he’s constantly floating away, eyes that always see right through him.
“Oh,” is all Anakin says, voice so soft and fragile, blinking back tears as he melts a bit into Mace’s touch.
(Or, Anakin works through some of his emotions with Mace's help.)
