Summary: After losing Lightning McQueen, Doc Hudson conducted an unethical cloning experiment, creating a child named "Monty." He hid the child in his hometown of Thomasville, attempting to sever all ties with his racing past. But as the child grew up and began asking "Who am I?", the carefully constructed lies started to crumble. Furthermore, the happiness he stole was on a countdown from the very beginning.

Thumbing his lip, Doc clarifies. “Not sleeping. It just makes the dreams worse.” Inhaling a hearty gulp of his drink, he winces when the liquid burns his throat. “Honey-” and damn does the kid just melt at that name, “Ya gotta try and sleep, okay?”

"I think we need to take a trip to the Emergency Room, see a doctor," Doc says at the same time Lightning exclaims. "You're a doctor!"
"Just want to make sure nothing is wrong," his mentor says in a calm rational tone that doesn't do anything but make him more ansty. "We can go quickly-"
"It's just gas Doc," he claims. "Really bad gas, I'm totally fine."
"Light-"
"Do you know what I'm feeling right now?" He demands. "Exactly, you don't- so please stop assuming."
It's more aggressive than Lightning usually gets with him, but there is no way in hell he's being toted off to some fucking hospital; especially not for some asshole Doctor, who's not Doc, to just laugh at him for over-reacting about some nuclear level gas pain.
No fucking way.

Doc just couldn't shake this cough. Three months of nearly hacking a lung up and he made the executive decision to break down and see his doctor. Lightning's worried glances only seemed to grow as the days dragged on without a resolution.
He knew eventually it would catch up to him.
You didn't make it to sixty five years old without some sort of health problems causing a fender bender in life.
He should be grateful he hadn't had any issues earlier in his youth, what with the amount of packs he used to smoke from ages 15 to... well now.
Seeing the CT scan results, he kind of wishes he had listened to Smokey when he grumbled at him, "Those things will be the death of you kid."
(Or Doc faces his mortality, has some 'fun' procedures, worries his adopted son, and tries like hell to finally kick the smoking habit)
