"I prefer 'Golden Boy' to 'wall-crasher'," Kip shot back, a spark of genuine irritation finally overriding his exhaustion. "And for the record, figure skating requires precision, balance, and absolute control. It's an art form. Your sport requires a mouthguard and a high tolerance for concussions."
To Kip’s surprise, Scott didn't bristle. Instead, the corners of his mouth twitched, and a slow, devastating smile spread across his face. It fundamentally altered the hockey player's entire demeanor, erasing the stoic, intimidating aura and replacing it with something warm, incredibly charming, and deeply lethal.

The young man froze for a moment, the traces of relief in his expression quickly diminishing, and eventually retracted his hand.

Summary
Scott Hunter has always lived his life like there's a homophobic sniper tracking his every move, who gets a 'ping' any time he acts too gay. After half the government is revealed as a Nazi front, he discovers the sniper is in fact real (though not homophobic). He's now eating Lucky Charms in Scott's kitchen, saying something about a vacancy.
So Scott gets a roommate, but at least he knows he won't fall in love with this gay brunet from Brooklyn. After all, he's still hung up on the last one.

Kip froze, fork halfway to his mouth.

“Plumbing?” he repeated, voice strangely neutral.
“Yeah,” Margaret continued, sitting back down. “That creaking sound. But it stopped quickly. Must just be old pipes.”
“Must be,” Kip managed to say, shoving the pancake into his mouth before any other word could escape.

He’s tried everything: running extra drills; going back to basics; increasing his cardio interval training; changing the way he tapes his stick; daily affirmations; and, in desperation, following a YouTube tutorial to learn to juggle, hoping it would further hone his hand-eye coordination. (It didn’t.)
So when he complains to Carter, and Carter says he definitely has a solution, he is ready to listen.
